The Pivotal Roles in CCNDA>Teacher Yueh-chiao Cheng

Teacher Yueh-chiao Cheng
Origin
Teacher Yueh-chiao Cheng has served at the school before we entered the elementary school. She played in the appreciative show of CCNDA in the appreciation month every year. She also participates in the courses of life education, so we all know her very well, but we did not really understand her. Let us take a look at her interview.
Interview
1.How did you participate in this volunteer industry? Is this your interest or your main job?
The volunteer industry was not very popular in Taiwan when I first joined it. I felt that I had extra time, and this was a quite meaningful job, so I started to be a volunteer. After a while, it became one of my interests such as telling story to the children.
2.Teacher Cheng, you have taught the life education courses for many years. Why did the school need to promote the life education? What is the main purpose?
We use life education courses to describe a beautiful life to children through picture book stories. I feel the importance of the life education is that childhood is the most important stage for building their life value, since they all like to listen to stories. Therefore we share the important value, and help the children build their nice outlook of life through story telling.
3.Is there any emergent situation while promoting the life education courses? What is the biggest difficulty of this?
The biggest difficulty is the declining of volunteer number. These volunteers have their own career planning. Due to many reasons such as their family changes or their own health, they may not be able to continue to work here. We continue to persuade and promote in recent year, so some new volunteers come and join us, but some old volunteers left too.
4.Can you roughly introduce your life education team? How many people of the team? Which schools or areas they serve? How do they teach children? How do they prepare their teaching materials?

There are 8 volunteer teachers in the team, and their service objects are children between third to sixth grades. They need to stand in front of these children to tell stories every time, so we need to prepare the materials in August before the semester starts. All volunteer teachers need to get together to prepare the materials. Our problems will be changed following the current situation and children’s condition.

5.The school offers a show to the students every year. What is the show name this year? How long take you to rehearse the show? Is there anything interesting or difficult you can share with us?
We offer a show called “Doggies’ Paradise”. We have started to rehearse this show from October. The difficult part of this was very limited rehearsal time, and hence we did not have much time to memorize scripts and practice. In fact, as long as parents are willing to help, all these difficulties could be resolved.
6.What is your original thought of offering this show? What messages would you like to pass onto the children through the show?
In fact, the stage show is not our expertise. We had never been trained on this, but the Rainbow Family Life Education Association researches and develops a Christmas show every year. We almost participated in the training lecture every month, and become the seed teachers. We also brought back the show play technique. I feel that it is the learning with multiple elements through the show.
7.We saw that everyone made the prop and scenery together. Did someone guide you or you guys create these? How do we quickly learn to make prop?
In our team, one member knows how to make prop. This is her interest, and is also her expertise, so our team is very lucky to have her to help us make prop. We all enjoy the fun of teamwork when we work together.

8.In terms of caring the disadvantaged, what suggestion would you give us?
You need to first find out what you have, and then share this with them, so that they can feel the love of giving. This is a true sharing, so you need to feel it from deep of your heart that you want to help the others. That is the best. Starting from you learning environment, you guys should think what you have, and what the others need, so that you can start with helping people around you.
Conclusion
Your own mind set is very important. Once you have the mind to help the others, then you can take the action. It is not important whether you have money or not when you want to help the people who need it. The most important thing is your heart of helping people and the motivation of practical implementation. Thank Teacher Cheng for giving us the final valuable suggestion.
