The Driving Forces behind CCNDA>Mr. Hung-en Chang, the Secretary-General

Mr. Hung-en Chang, the Secretary-General
Origin
The Secretary-General, Mr. Hung-en Chang, is a person with great ideas. He understands the operation of CCNDA’s activities very well, so he is relatively helpful to our research, and hence the interview with Mr. Chang initiated this research.
Interview
1.When did you start this job? Why did you choose this job?
I started this job from March 1, 2010. Before this job, I had been working on the counseling job related to children and youths for a long period of time. Since the job in HHDC was a counseling job for children and youths, I decided to take it.
2.What do you usually do for this job?
I need to manage the operation of CCNDA and help hold some big and small sizes of activities from time to time. A Secretary General also needs to represent CCNDA in external activities besides internal management.
3.Have you encountered any difficulties in CCNDA’s job? How did you overcome it?
In fact, the big problems were the interaction and conflict among people. All we could do was to understand the problems and needs among them. The biggest difficulty was how to understand their needs from interaction with them, and how to provide appropriate help to them.
4.From the time you start this job until now, was there anything very impressive to you?
Some children who did not want to study or were very depressed were helped by us to improve their confidence. Some children did not want to communicate with the others; we helped them to improve their interpersonal relationship. This also helped build their ability of solving problems. These children were changed by teachers’ accompanying in elementary school, and accomplished something led by their elder sisters and brothers in their junior high school.
5.What is the difference between CCNDA and HHDC?
CCNDA is the name of the association, and HHDC is the counseling center formed by CCNDA. Due to the difficulty of the disadvantaged groups, they formed this site to be the blessing of the community, so that CCNDA can implement some services to care for the disadvantaged.
6.It is not easy to operate a volunteer team, so how does CCNDA manage and operate these volunteer teams? How does it recruit and train the volunteers?
We arranged a set of curriculum to train the volunteers. Also, we have three ways to recruit volunteers: (1) Interpersonal spreading (2) Posting related information on internet (3) Sending official documents to corresponding units.
7.Do you feel anything that can be added or reinforced in terms of the services provided to the disadvantaged? Could you please also talk about the current advantage/disadvantage situation and future development of CCNDA?
We hope their families can also do something for them instead of just relying upon our services. The most important factor is the familial bond, and no matter how hard we try, we cannot help them to accomplish this part.

8.From your working experiences, what is the best way you suggest little children like us to help and care people who need?
You need to first understand the real needs of the disadvantaged, and then you need to be sure that you would like to be together with them. If you cannot stay with them, you have no way to help them. Finally, you need to find ways to help them. Not everyone can be helped the same way. This is the best way for you guys to start.
9.If you meet someone who needs help or whose family needs help, and you want to help, but he does not think he needs it. How would you deal with this? Would you please give us a case or an example to explain this?
All we can do is to put him in a situation where he does not feel he is disadvantaged, and then provide him with our support. Two things are connected to each other, their needs and what we can do. If what we can do meets their needs, we can provide appropriate services to them, and then we actually help them.

Conclusion
Mr. Chang said: “accompanying the study class is to accompany these children to holistically grow physically and mentally. The purpose of comprehensive growth includes body, intelligence, and wisdom. We take care of their body safety and mental situation to help them grow together. This is one of the reasons how HHDC was named”. Therefore, we all relatively understand the concept of “holistic”. One association really needs a person like Mr. Chang to be able to take care of people who need help.
