Having never let my teachers and parents worry about my academic ability, it is difficult for me to believe that there are some students need to improve their ability to know such a simple thing like Chinese phonetic symbols. After the observation, I find these students do need more practice and help. Given the chance, I would like to go to the first graders’ class and help those in need of help.
Every volunteer provides the one-to-one support, like a tutor in the side. It’s exactly the VIP learning. I hope these students can learn the phonetic symbols with the volunteers’ help.
Remedial teaching class was fun, especially the time when the two teams PK for pointing the correct rhyming or consonant symbols. I almost rushed forward to give the answer since I know it. Within the many fun activities, I believe they can made progress quickly.
Watching the volunteers carefully guiding the students to read the nursery rhymes, reviewing all what the teacher taught, constantly reminding them to pay attention to the way the teacher say the sounds, I was deeply touched by their passion and love. Hope that these students can make progress with the volunteers’ help.
I remember one time a student didn’t come to the class on time, the accompanying volunteer was very worried. She gave a phone call to ask why the student didn’t come. The volunteers did care about the students in addition to helping them in learning.
Every time when we observed the class, no one came to the class earlier than the volunteers. If some students came earlier before the class began, the volunteer accompanied them to read the nursery rhymes or made a review for what had been learned the last time. I believe they wouldn’t need to go to the remedy class soon if they follow the volunteers and work hard.
