Group Courses

Small-group counseling is smaller in scale as its name suggests. The teacher tells us that small-group counseling provides help only to the students who are considered in the most need of assistance. Through the counseling and activities in a smaller group, teachers and volunteers can take better care of them and give them the best help.
Small-group counseling courses are provided to lower, middle and upper graders. Low-grade courses are offered mainly for the children from foreign-spouse families, while the middle/upper-grade courses target at those students having problems to get along with the other classmates such as frequent quarrels with classmates, or liable limb-touching behaviors. Counseling volunteers, the counseling specialist and the social worker design relevant courses to address their needs.

In addition to the activities such as picture-book reading and discussion, outdoor activities are also arranged so that these students have the opportunities to interact with the other students. In the process of interaction, they are taught the abstract concepts such as trust, concern and care. During the proceeding of the activities, there occasionally happen some trivial accidents. These unexpected situations give both the students and counseling volunteers opportunities to learn from each other.
Before the end of each semester, small-group counseling volunteers arranged thanksgiving gathering for the students. The counseling volunteers wrote cards to the students and read the cards in front of the students. All the students were quite moved. Some students even asked, "What time will the course begin again?” We were there and felt deeply that the children were reluctant to say goodbye to the counseling volunteers and they loved these small-group counseling courses.
