Remedial class is mainly aimed at the first graders who need help in learning
Chinese phonetic symbols. Every year, after the grand exam of Chinese phonetic alphabet hold annually in October, the home-room teachers of the first graders hand in a name list of the students in need of help. The counseling office then asks the counseling volunteers in the remedial teaching group to assist these students. Remedial class is provided in the self-study time in the morning every Wednesday and Friday from November to January. The teaching content is about Chinese phonetic alphabet. Instead of teaching Chinese phonetic alphabet with textbooks in a general classroom, the teacher and counseling volunteers help these students to know the phonetic alphabet with songs, picture cards. Games were used in the class. Students were guided to point at the right consonant or vowel cards on the blackboard. We saw many students point at the right cards fast, aggressively and accurately. We believe these activities do give them a lot of help. |

In this class, except for a teacher in the front of the classroom, each student was accompanied by a counseling volunteer, like the case of the one-on-one teaching. All the volunteers prepared a number of things such as glue, lyric sheets of the nursery rhymes, water-based markers, small whiteboards, and reward stamps to assist the students to practice Chinese phonetic symbols. We were astonished that every volunteer keep a record of the student’s learning progress to inform the child's home-room teacher. The record wasn’t just one or two words, but a very detailed one about the student’s learning. We couldn’t help admiring the volunteers’ concentration and contribution because it’s usually like having a headache for us to write an essay. counseling courses. | ||||
