Q: What’s your main job except for being a teacher for the counseling volunteers? I am the social worker for the school. I work mainly in the tertiary counseling and advisory services for all the teachers. I can also introduce other counseling resources if it’s necessary. Q: Why do you want to help the counseling volunteers? The counseling volunteers need professional growth and I have the license of the counseling profession. I am willing to help the volunteers when they assist the counseling services. Hope it will be helpful. Q: Have you ever met any counseling volunteer who is very impressive to you? No, I haven’t. The Growth courses cover a wide range of content. The counseling volunteers mainly want to make growth through the self-care or self-management courses. Some volunteers come here to make friends or dump the innermost garbage. However, most volunteers think that the growth courses are helpful. Q: What would you do when you face disobedient children since you also take small-group counseling class ? Children in this group also need others’ care to some kinds of extent. I would just stop the inappropriate behavior in class and talk to the child later to see if there is anything for him to say or let out because the children like him also need people to treat them in empathy. I hope more talk and less scolding help them to make their own life. Q: We have already observed your classes. Do you design these courses on your own? Do you use textbooks? I designed these courses by myself. I don’t use any textbook, but I make reference to some theory books. After each course, I may find some volunteer need something different and then I make adjustment to the courses. A single textbook is unable to address all the volunteers’ needs. They certainly learn a lot through many professional courses, I also learn deeper and broader in my profession under their influence. Q: Is there anything impressive during this period of being a counseling teacher? During this year as a teacher, some volunteers would shared their own situation of naughty children at home in the beginning. But this kind of voice is less and less after the volunteers have attended the growth courses. They say that, after taking the program, they get a better understanding of their children, and will be more tolerant to them. Q: Do you have anything else related with counseling volunteers to share with us? In addition to assist the counseling courses, the volunteers are highly motivated to make personal growth. Some volunteers even spend money in participating in some professional courses outside of the school. You can recognize the counseling volunteers with the profession are slightly different from those without profession. Their efforts to study really benefit more child at schools. |
