Our research aims to make people have further understanding about the architecture and culture of the jail. Our team wants to lead people to visit this forsaken corner by means of observation, interviews and research integration. We compare the management system in the past with the present system. Different management systems have different features and different ways of operation. We find out the process of reforming the inmates in order to change people's mechanical impression of Old Chiayi Prison.

We also hope to tell people that Old Chiayi Prison is the most well-preserved jail built during Japanese colonialism. It was officially defined as national monument in 2004. Many people who are devoted to history and culture plan enthusiastically to transform Old Chiayi Prison into a Museum of Jail. They hope to undertake a camp for people to experience the life in a jail or offer the jail as a spot for shooting a movie. They want to promote Old Chia-yi Jail to an index to understand the history of Chiayi.

The existence of Old Chiayi Jail involves sweat and tears of many predecessors. The jail, which is a work of art, is now the only one jail architecture built during Japanese colonialism. If we don't treasure this delicate architecture or strive for the chance to transform it, this gorgeous architecture will only exist in people's memory. The future generation may not be able to witness the historical legacy of the past half century.
