West Market Pig Blood Soup

Owner:  Wu Liying
Location: West Market No. 17
Open Time: 9:00~14:00
Day-off: Monday

At a corner of the Douliu West Market, there is a stand with very simple equipment selling pig blood soup. It has been 20 years since Ms. Wu took over this stand.

Every morning at nine o’clock, Ms. Wu starts her business. She has been doing it since she married her husband. The soup is cooked after being ordered by the customers. It is so delicious that many customers will come during sweaty summer days, let alone winter days.

There is no sign for the stand, but it is widely recommended by the locals. According to Ms. Wu, many Douliu people living elsewhere will even come back to eat during vacations.

Many female customers will come to the stand during lunch time. They ask Ms. Wu to cook it until tender because they are buying it for elders at home.

To survive in a traditional market is very difficult. Ms. Wu’s secret it to concentrate and never change the recipe. Many old customers believe that the pig blood stand will remain in this market.
