The Hu-Shan Reservoir is as beautiful as the backyard of Douliu. It is a quiet and peaceful place. It was built nine years ago, and the water volume will reach its capacity in 10 years. Its beauty is known as a dwelling in heaven. The Sports Center held an event on November 15, 2014 for the first time. In the near future, Hu-Shan Dam will start building cycling lane to promote Green Sightseeing in Douliu.

The Hu-Shan Reservoir is a private sightseeing spot in Douliu. It is easy to get lost in Hu-Shan Reservoir because there are no road signs or directions. Mr. Lin, the bureau chief, passionately gave us a tour around the area. He sincerely hopes that citizen’s hard work and sacrifice to this land will, in return, receive more clean water for the local citizens.

Hu-Shan Reservoir costs five times more than a normal dam. It is an ecological conservation and an environmental protected area. People can walk or bike to look at the beauty of Hu-Shan Reservoir. We can witness its features before the construction is completed. There are three parts to the Hu-Shan Reservoir. They are South Hu-Shan Reservoir, Second Hu-Shan Reservoir and Main Hu-Shan Reservoir. It covers Yunlin and Nantou county. The Reservoir is located in Douliu and Gukeng Township. After the completion of the Reservoir, it will propel local tourism and leisure. It is known as “The beauty of Douliu with water and mountain's safety”.

Hu-Shan Reservoir is the largest breeding birdlife habitat in the nation. The mayor of Douliu, Mrs. Hsieh, is developing its growth and strength. The goal is to maintain the local’s conservation of green tourism. Mayor Hsieh actively collects funds to promote Happy Bus, transportation that connects cites, industry characteristics and the Hu-Shan Reservoir. People may take the “Happy Bus”between cities. Also, people can use a journal to write down their prideful story here.

Bao-Kun General Legend

According to the needs of building the Hu-Shan Reservoir, local citizens had to move the local god called “Bao-Kun General Legend”. In order to move it to a different place, citizens needed to talk to the local priest for permission first. The priest has to talk to the gods in the temple and prepare the food and fruits for the gods. If the gods agree, the priest will tell the citizens directly. Then they may start working on the construction of the Hu-Shan Reservoir.

Hu-Shan Reservoir Profile

The Hu-Shan Reservoir’s total construction building costs more than 20 billion dollars. The government’s Water Resources Agency noted that we needed to preserve water since July, 2015. By the year 2017, the government will be able to supply citizen’s water needs as well as to other enterprises or related factories. Moreover, it is to reduce the use of extracting groundwater. The reason is that by using excessive groundwater, it will eventually cause subsidence. Therefore, the government’s Water Resources Agency has been trying to preserve water in advance. It will benefit the citizen’s needs of water usage.

The government’s Water Resources Agency emphasizes that Hu-Shan Reservoir mainly provides water usage for local citizen, not for industrial companies and agricultural irrigation needs. It can reserve water to the capacity of 5,218 million tons. The dam’s water capacity has reached 216 meters high, and the construction buildings and water tunnel are now finished.

The Hu-Shan Reservoir will connect to the Jiji Weir after the completion of construction. Jiji Weir provides water purification and water plant supplies. During the dry period, the Hu-Shan Reservoir will be able to supply the water needs for local citizens in Yunlin county. The maximum water supply is about 430,000 tons per day.
