Team Reflections

吳安綺 An-Chi Wu

I'm glad to have the chance to participate in cyber fair again. I learn even more information from the cooperating process, for instance, discussing with my partners, reading long articles, or learning fast note-taking skill while people are speaking...etc. These all have improved my research ability and writing skill.
The most impressive part within this cyber fair was to interview the major of Dou-Liu City. She's a kind, friendly, knowledgeable, and well-organized person. She knows how to supervise the city very well. It's a very good chance to cooperate with her to learn more about Dou-Liu City!
This time we needed to arrange our time very wellbecause we need to travel around Dou-Liuto find new interesting things and introduce the good to the world. We need to try our best to help the city grow better, and that’s what a good citizen should do. Knowing and understanding Dou-Liu City, my home town, is an interesting job to do. For some of it, I have known already, but as to other parts about it, I have just learnedfrom the research and interview processes, such as the way of selling fruits in Dou-Liu, the future trends of the city, and some important implementations of the environmental protection. Even though the Cyber Fair is kind of time-consuming and is required of giving efforts, I still have learned a lot of things about my hometown through the way. It’s an excellent experience to understand more about Dou-Liu City.

I am very happy to join this competition. I have learned a lot of skills, such as how to visit a merchant and ask some questions about the history of different shops, and to collect the information that my team needed. However, the most important thing is to learn about teamwork. If you don’t work with a team, but by yourself, the work load is usually huge and processing speed will be slower than that in a team. It is not going to change that your teammates can provide and share many ideas and opinions with you, which is better than working alone.
Furthermore, one precious thing that I have ever learned from this experience was when I heard our mayor say, “I don’t think tourist is the most important thing, but the most important thing is how our residents care about where they live.” I totally agree what she said. I am very happy to have this kind of mayor. She spurs the tourism of the city. So that Gu-Keng coffee then has become famous in Taiwan.
I like this Cyber Fair very much, which helps me understand more about my town. We worked hard, but we were happy during these weekends. I really want to join some similar competitions like this again. Finally, I would like to say thanks to my teachers and supervisors for their assistance and encouragement.

Since Mr. Lee informed me to join this internet research, my feeling was in hasty and reckless state, till now, familiar and stable. All these bits and pieces of learning and successful moments were built by our team.To look back, all these memories and experiences seemed to just happen a second ago. These memories are not just a process, but it helpsgrow ourwisdom, critical thinking and analysis skill. No matter the successful interviews, or the disappointing moment due to refusals, all these lovely experiences are nostalgic and will be existing in my heart afterwards!
Behind our rightful success, the most enthusiastic Mr. Lee has beenalways the one who helps us a lot! Mr. Lee not just teaches me how to interview a store keeper, but also he has encouraged and comforted us even when we failed some tasks and plans. The most important part, Mr. Lee took care of us just like his own children, and didn’t ask for any feedback when he helped us. Therefore, I really want to say thanks to Mr. Lee with my very sincerity.
We all used the time to work with our team after we finished school Cambridge camp every Saturday. Sometimes, we even had to sacrifice our weekends to discuss together. Everyone played a very important role in the research, especially for me because I am the team leader. Therefore, I was very nervous and scared when I took the leading role in the beginning.
My first mission that Mr. Lee gave me was to plan and make aninterview with the Mayor of Dou-Liu City, Ms.Shu-Ya Hsieh. As I just got the mission, I felt very disturbed because I didn’t have any experience of making such a formal interview. So advanced preparation was very important, and the outline of what my teammates and I were going to ask was also required to be planned in detail.
Fortunately, my team and I finally made it. Mayor Hsieh is really a nice person. I remembered she had said,” Dou-Liu City is just like a big family. Her goal is to make the Dou-Liu citizens a good quality of life and zero pollution of the environment.” She also actively promotes the implementation of U-Bike to allow Dou-Liu public transportation more convenient, reducing carbon dioxide emissions at the same time. Mayor Hsieh said she would put the right of the citizens’living environment as the priority all the time, which indeed makes me feel very happy and honored to live in Dou-Liu City. In the end, I really learned a lot from the interview with MayorHsieh.

I really learned a lot as I took part in this Cyber Fair research. Thanks for the teammates who participated in the tough work and were willing to sacrifice their free time. Also, I thank for the teacherswho supervised us and the store keepers helping us and offering lots of good information. Each process is also a memorable step. Although the road to success was very hard,I always believed that God would not leave aside our efforts!

I think the most impressive thing about this activity is to visit Mayor Shu-Ya Hsieh. We got much information when we visited her, and we have learned many things about Dou-Liu, too. Mayor Hsieh said that conducting some activities not only can the residents in Dou-Liu learn more about of their hometown, but it can bring along more tourists to Dou-Liu City, too andfor the sake of promoting our local agricultural products. She also integrates the assistance and cooperation of the local university into agricultural produce. The students from the Design department in Yun-Lin Technology University have designed some special sets of packaging for those local agricultural products, which make the produce more exquisite. Besides packaging the products, the students studying Agriculture in Yun-Lin Technology University are helping to invent new ways to create the value of the local fruits or vegetables, too. When I saw the works, I thought it was very amazing and creative. The mayor said the most important thing is not to develop tourism in Dou-Liu, but to promoteresidents’ quality of living.
Moreover, Dou-Liu residents will feel happiness of living in their hometown. I thought mayor Hsiehcares about the residentsso much. She is Just like DOULIU's mother.

When Mr. Lee told me that I was one of the Cyber Fair team members, I was very excited. I felt honored. Before I attendedone competition like this once, but my team did not win prizes. So I told myself I should put more efforts into this project this time.
At first, Mr. Lee told us what this Cyber Fair was about, how we would make it, and how we did so we could win this time. It was to my surprise that we went to interviewMayor Hsieh to collect data first. She knows a lot of things about Dou-Liu City, so we received many good answers about our hometown, such as if we could have U-bike as one of the public transportation. Also, I am very happy that one of my teammates is Wesley. That is excellentbecause he is my good friend and he is a smart guy. He has taught me lots of good things.

In the beginning of the semester, our teacher brought us to look around Dou-Liu City. I was so excited to participate in this project. Thanks for Mr. Lee’s giving me this chance to take a part of this project. Before this, I used to think Dou-Liu City was having nothing special, but during working on this project I sawa lot of things happening in Dou-Liu City. It has totally changed my view about it.It is just a small town; however, it is filled with energy. More than this, the whole process was full of challenges, such as being rejected of an interview or criticized by some interviewers. Every time when we were rejected, we would question ourselves and if see we really did our best.We never gave up. We kept trying until we finished this project
We also visited and discussed some critical issues with Mayor Hsieh. I really respect her. She is very busy, but sill agreed to sparesome time to discuss the questions with us. In addition, my friend, Mimi and I have been to a coffee shop and that coffee shop impressed me. Its owner is very kind and the coffee there is very delicious and tasty. The decoration is very classical. I really like it!
I have heard people say that Dou-Liu's children are the happiest kids. Now I trulyagree with this idea!

This is my first time to participate in this project. In this project, I learned many things, such as teamwork, communication to people, etc. I’m very happy that I could work with my friends and teachers. We helpedeach other to make this project better and better.
When I learned that I was a member of the Cyber Fair, my heart was extremely excited about this first experience. I didn’t really know I could do, but I knew I must learn something from it.Though it was my first time to participate in this international competition and it was tough, somehow I still felt that all kinds of impossibilities that had happened to me. I felt lucky though. To participate in this Cyber Fair competition is I really a big harvest though I lost some of my free time.  I was super nervous, but I believed that there is every effort, there will be good results!

It was impressed when we went to visit Mayor Shu-YA Hsieh. I remember the mayor said, ‘‘The children who live in Dou-Liu City do not have to memorize their tests at school .Their education should be their own experiences.” I am kind of agreeing with she said.

I remember when we just came to the Junior High School, we met the new challenge –Cyber Fair– story of Dou-Liu City. We used Saturdays tovisit every corner of this small town –Dou-Liu City. From the municipal government to the garden of Dou-Liu – Husha Reservoir, as well as the essence of Dou-Liu – Taiping Street, had our footprints on them. During holidays and weekends, we went out of the classroom, and went on the street and listened to the simple, but extraordinary stories from the street peddlers.
During the visits, we have encountered many setbacks. The deepest impression was when we went to the east market and access to Lin beef noodles. We walked into the small shop, which was decorated simply. We had told the boss that we would like to interview him, but we were driven out by the angry boss. The teacher said maybe the boss was not in a good mood the day and we could come back another day. However, we learned to inform him first before the interview in order to avoid recurrence of the same thing. Next, we moved on across the street to the ice shop which everyone strongly recommended- Changxing ice shop. The boss is a nice man. While answering our questions, he didn’t stop cooking pot after pot of hot rice balls-the hot sesame and peanut dumplings dipped in flour. It smelled good and tasted good.
Another memorable day was when my father, Mr. Ken,my friend Milky, and I went to visit the West Market, which is a big market. In order to learn about every little vendor,we walked round and round in the market. We were so exhausted and were about to collapse. Then, it was lunch time andwe were all hungry. We just visited the lamb vendor and we decided to order some dishes from it for lunch. After tasting hot mutton soup, Mr. Ken and my dad stayedat the mutton stall and chatted with the owner of the stall. Milky and I still had to continue our work, but we really could not find any other stall owners that would like to receive our interviews, so we went back to the mutton shop. The wife of the boss was zealous and she led us to know all the vendor owners. When she led us to pass a crowd of people, Milky and I just realized that we had missed the very last vendor ownerall the time becausethere were a lot of customers around the stall. We did not even notice that this one was in the front of us. It is really funny that it was too crowded and popular that we had missed and passed it.
Here, I want to thank the teachers who have given me the opportunity to participate in this activity and spent their free time and holidayswith us again and again, accompanying us to complete the task. Also the boss of the mutton shop and his wife are very nice persons who helped leadus to learnthe vendors in the big market. I am very grateful for the one whoever helped us.
I have learned a lot from this project, including tips for how to interview others and how to arrange time properly. I also learned about the importance of cooperation. I think these will help me a lot when I grow up.

From 2014 to 2015, we workedvery hard for the International Schools CyberFair. It is special for me. A group of teachers took us to look around Dou-Liu City. The first visit was墨池堂(Mo-Chi-Tan), which was the opening of our first adventure for International Schools CyberFair. Walking at the Taiping Street, the history is everywhere around the corners. Here is an introduction of Taiping Street. Taiping Street is located in Taiping Road. The total length is about 600 meters long.It is filled with Baroque historic buildings built in the 19th century, Japanese colonial period. It has been more than 90 years old. Each of them is a two-floor building. On the wall of the second floor, there is beautiful carving that is kept quite completely. Furthermore, many literary events are sometimes held along Taiping streets.
In order to record the local history, I also discovered how friendly the Dou-Liu people are. I remember when we visited the proprietors of the stores at Taiping Streets, I found they were all so enthusiastic and gave us lots of information about the development of Taiping Street. When my friend and I tried some famous Dou-Liufoods at Taiping Street,I found they were tasted especially delicious.
Dou-Liu City is reallylike a big family and Mayor Shu-Ya Hsieh is the important leader to gather Dou-Liu residents’ hearts together. Mayor Hsieh works hard to organize different activities, for example, when it is the season of oranges, she will manipulate various orange festivals and fairs for either residents or visitors to enjoy. Sometimes there are even free red envelopes to earn.

I am really pleased to join in this project. No matter we will win a prize or not, the most important thing for me is that I have learned a lot of experiences and how to cooperate with my team.

Because of participating in the Cyber Fair, we visited MayorShu-Ya Hsieh. During the interview process, we learned a lot of things. Mayor Hsieh said, ‘‘The children who live in DOULIUdo not have to memorize the tests at schools because their education is about their own experiences.Gaining one’s own experience is the best way to keep things in mind.’’ I think it makes sense. For example, a farmer should teach his kid how to grow the rice and crops himself instead of merely giving him something to eat.  In Dou-Liu, Mayor Hsieh’s diligent intention and farmers’cooperation are usually the motivations to holdtheinteresting agricultural activities, such as Grapefruit Festivals, Loofah Festivals, and Pomelo Festival, etc. In those festival activities, they will sell the famous agricultural products. Mayor Hsieh even works with Yun-Tech University and the college studentshelp designwrapping paper for the produce. Mayor Hsieh said she started at zero and pretended herself as a line, the residents beautiful pearls. She would like to string the various pearls together, showing us a beautiful hometown. And the pearl string is everyone’s. Mayor Hsieh also said, ‘‘If Dou-Liu residents can learn more from each other, enrich the popularity of local agricultural products, make sceneries more attractive and the living environment cleaner, then Dou-LiuCity will be more beautifuland appealing.
