Haven’t you ever read a fable about three little pigs who built three houses of different materials? In Douliu, there are three buildings that were built by three ardent men. The creative park which is located No. 43 on Fugian Street was a Japanese command post. After the post-martial law period, the park that was originally powered by Japanese Armaments Bureau was returned back toDouliu Hall as a storage room for the cleaning squad in Douliu area. Originally, this park was hidden by the enclosing wall, but now, the wall has been torn down, and this place has been used as a gathering place for holding the special activities or Sunday market.

The fool of a group of youth rushed in got the job done. Those passionate young men who held the persistence of chasing their dreams cultivated this park. They started from the three brick houses which were used as air-raid shelters. Then, gradually changed those buildings to a small marketplace and named it as “Three-buildings marketplace”.

Three small marketplace resembles the small people, small land and small satisfaction.

On every Sunday morning, farmers from all over the counties come vendor their home-grown products in the front yard of “Three Building Marketplace”- three buildings that were built by bamboo leaves, hays, and bricks. All the workers at the marketplace will decorate the yard, try to get people’s attention to come buy the products, arrange the seating area, write news on the blackboard, and the most importantly, share farmers’ great stories.

Xiao Long, who was the founder of Three Buildings Marketplace, was originated from Taipei. He moved down to Yunlin to attend a college. When Xian Long was in his senior year in college, his last-year research paper was on “Old Houses Rebirth”. So, he had to find ways to renovate the old houses. Then, his classmates and he started this project, which will puzzle back the forgettable history stories pieces by pieces, by painting those houses into the new colors. After days and nights, Xiao Long and his team cleaned out the weeds and the coat of old paint in the house. Also, they got rid of the mosquitoes and bugs that made those houses looked like haunted houses before. After the renovation, those houses were reborn- into a nice looking and cozy coffee shop and grocery store for selling agricultural products. Xiao Long’s plan had worked out nicely, and people enjoy going to the marketplace on the weekends.

Since Xiao Xuan grew up in Yunlin, she is another center of the team of Three Buildings Marketplace. When she went back to Yunlin from Taipei, she saw a slightly change in Yunlin, and was eager to know how to improve her hometown-to make it more cultural and full of history. So, she started visiting farmers around the county; she was trying to captivate some great stories and pass them down to people. Because she believed that behind every success, there is always something worth to listen to.

San San Cultural and Creative park is not just a broad-ranging industrial plan; it’s a way to help Yunlin to get people to recognize its name.
