Biking For Miracles of Irrigation Review

This morning I rode my bike and gathered with the teachers and classmates at Jiantan MRT station. To maintain safety of this event, I sent my bike to the garage for repair and maintenance to prevent any malfunction in midway and hinder the schedule. This event was held by Taipei City Chi-Sing Irrigation Association so most of the booths belonged to the foundation of the Irrigation Association for promotion. In particular, I was most interested in the explanation provided by the booths of Irrigation Association. Different from other DIY activities, the booth aimed at advocating the importance of irrigation facilities. I saw a classmate from our team taking one small booklet and quickly turning to read. He was looking at the photos of the inlet and outlet of Rubber Dam. The quick turning created animation effect and I could see the Rubber Dam being inflated to block the water while deflated to release the river flow, so that the water surface is maintained in consistency on the two sides. The guide told us that the use of rubber dam is intended with eco-friendly purpose because it will not destroy the ecology, and I was quite impressed by it. Director Zhou also mentioned in his speech that the function or Irrigation Association not only administers farmland irrigation facilities but also maintains ecological equilibrium, thereby assuring the sustainable use of water resources. This concept also needs to be promoted to everyone and hence the Association holds this biking for miracles of irrigation in attempt to show and acquaint everyone with irrigation facilities closely related to our life through this event. People will consequently cherish the local abundant water resource. I told myself that I will tell my friends and family of this event, so we could participate together next year.

Next, we shouted the slogan, “Youth, Biking, Irrigation Protection, Bike Go Go Go” before riding the bicycles to depart. We passed under Bailing Bridge, Zhoumei Water Pumping Station, under Zhoumei Expressway Overpass, Zhoumei Rubber Dam, Shilin Water Pumping Station, and Jiantan Water Pumpting Station. We made a stop for every spot to look at the introduction on the sign and listen to the supplementary made by the teachers. I learned that without these irrigation facilities, we could have flood once we have torrential rain or there would be no water for irrigation for farmlands nearby. There was an additional story and that was one classmate of our team recently learned to ride bicycles and came to take part in the event. He fell from the bicycle by accident but he did not cry but to shake his clothes and continue to ride forward. I was impressed by him. Today was holiday and the bike trail was really congested. By the time we returned to Sanjiao Ferry, I felt a great sense of achievement because I have participated in this fitness and meaningful event. Our teachers told us to leave traces of research when we conduct project research, so this event was not only traces of foot but traces of bikes. I am growing more expectation for our project research.
