Temples&Renovation/Reconstruction Wu Temple where the old systems were passed down was preserved better because it has many visitors. Wenkai Academy was forced to be shut down during the Japanese colonial period, and renamed as “Baibaichuan Memorial Hall.” On December 9, 1975, the, the Academy was burnt due to a fire. A rumor had it that the fire was caused by a reckless soldier who arbitrarily threw away his cigarette. 10 years later, Han Guang Architect Firm took charge of the reconstruction work, and helped Wenkai Academy regain its architectural appearance. The new look of Wenkai Academy was not renovated until 1984. In 1985, it was designated as Level Three Ancient Monument. Wen Shrine experienced the late Qing Dynasty, small renovation in the Japanese colonial period, and destruction after Taiwan's restoration, and was not reconstructed until 1981. The reconstructed and renovated Wen Shrine and Wenkai Academy were not fully utilized because the locals did not carefully maintain them. Moreover, in 1999, “921 earthquakes” stroke them again. Wen Wu Temple was renovated again, and Wenkai Academy was damaged again. After years of reconstruction and renovation, the repair was eventually completed in 2005. Wenkai Academy was renovated again in 2015, and re-opened for visitors in 2016.
