Spring Couplets

Lukang Old Street’s signboards are very unique. All stores use plaques as signboards, not for competing though. Stores of big cities prefer to use dazzling neon lights to attract customers. It looks like they are competing to have the brightest neon lights. Lukang Old Street stores do business with their simple heart and the simple signboards.

Each store or house posts different couplets according to their own needs, so there are various types of spring couplets posted on windows, walls, or doors. The spring couplet are not only decorations but also residents’ prayers.
Postscript
Lukang Old Street is a quaint place. Seeing spring couplets brings back people’s childhood memories, in which every house posted spring couplets to welcome Chinese New Year. It’s interesting to see all signboards have something to do with the spring couplets. Each store’s spring couplets tell the store’s business type and its value concept.
