Mural
Traditional buildings, using wood as the main building material, need to be coated with paints. (1) Each color has its own meaning; (2) The paint is for protecting wood – the murals. Lukang’s Gui-hua Alley Artist Village is an example. When you visit Lukang, remember to pay attention at wall murals!
Mural Introduction
(Figure 2) The mural belongs to Smalleye Backpacker. It used to be a seriously cracked wall. A backpacker painted the mural to tell the romance of Mazu and Baosheng Dadi.
Gui-hua Alley Arts Village
You might want to visit Gui-hua Alley Arts Village when you come to Lukang. This place is full of artistic feelings. A river on a green hill flows into a little well along the wall. The motor on left hand side looks like a little guardian protecting the black cat sitting on the high tower. The scenery on this mural is full of childlike artistic conception.
(Figure 4) Using modern techniques to paint and do calligraphy on walls creates unique beauty. The left hand side is a smart and lively black cat while the right hand side is calm calligraphy. The active one perfectly matches up the quiet one. These are murals on Gui-hua Alley Arts Village. If you come to Old Street and get tired, you might want to come here to take a leisure walk, visit artist studios one by one, and appreciate beautiful murals on the wall.
