To popularize surfing, Taitung government hosts international surfing match at Jinzun Harbor since 2011, which officially renamed as Taiwan Open of Surfing, classified by Asian Surfing Championships (ASC) as Ultimate Event. World Tour is the surfing match held by the biggest international surfing organizations, Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), the title of which is pursued by all worldwide surfing giants. In order to enter this Olympic level surfing match, thousands of surfers take part in the test events of ASP series around the world.
In the aspect of wave, either the size or the shape, Taitung owns the renown as a gift from nature. Plus, as the waves in Donghe are encouraged by the northeast monsoons during autumn and winter, Taitung is ranked as the best surfing site in Asia by ASC. Hence, Donghe has become the newest and the greatest Asian surfing spot after Malaysia, Bali and Thailand, being the only place of international surfing tour in Taiwan. By which, universal surfers can be further acquainted with the beauty of the east coast of Taiwan. |
