Preparation to Surf  
       Doing all water activities at the beach should have awareness of safe water area and self-rescue. That is the reason why we have to learn drown prevention and drown rescuing as well as the potential risk of surfing.

Ten Tips of Drown Prevention:

 
Tip 1: Surf at the proper place, more importantly, with someone accompanies.
Tip 2: Obey the surfing etiquette, avoid dangerous attempts.
Tip 3: Watch the change in the sea flow and the current.
Tip 4: Mind your company and notice each other.
Tip 5: Warm up before going into the water, better to wear a wetsuit or rash guard.
Tip 6: Don’t play around while surfing.
Tip 7: Pay attention to the physical situation at any time, rest appropriately.
Tip 8: Prevent soaking in the water for a long time.
Tip 9: Pay attention to the weather reports, keep away from surfing at bad weather.

Tip 10: Hold tight the surfboard while falling into the water and stay calm.

Three steps of drown rescuing:

Step 1: Shout loud for help.
As surfing on the sea, the wind and wave are blaring. Once an emergent spasm or conditions happen, call out lustily as possible to attract attention.
Step 2: Wave the arm to draw attention.
For being noticed, not only for calling out, but waving the arm is another way for someone to spot you.
Step 3: Grasp the surfboard.
Surfboard is a good floater. No matter what happens on the sea, do grasp the surfboard and wait calmly for the resuce.

Knowledge of Rip Current:

 
       Rip current, a sea flow that brings the water from the shore back to the ocean, is the biggest threat while playing at the beach. While the waves are pushed forward to the shore, the water streams will gather at a suitable route for returning into the open sea. The bigger the waves are, the stronger the rip current is. The fastest rip current can be up to 2.5 meter per second. Every year, amounts of people die from this dreadful sea flow. In this case, observing the sea condition is necessary before going surfing into the water. And keep oneself away from surfing at the rip current area.
Dealing with a Rip Current:
1. Skilled swimmers may try to swim vertically to the wave for getting away from the water stream. Till dodging from the rip current, one can swim toward the shore. If encountering the side wind, choose to swim the side of down-wind.
2. Keep oneself away from panic to maintain the status. Wait until being brought to the outside by the current and swim back to the shore with the wave.
3. If there are lifeguards at the beach, try to float on the water and call for the help loud.
