Donghe Bridge Scenic Area:

The old Donghe Bridge was built in the 19th year of Republic Era by a Japanese engineer, Mr. Yoshida. In order to build in accordance with the terrain and to maintain the gigantic rock landscape in the middle of the river, half of the bridge was designed in arch construction while the other half is brace supported, showing an interesting distinction. The muscovite in difference shapes lying under the bridge pier contrasting with the green river shows a graceful natural landscape. Respectably matching the natural environment, this distinguishing designed bridge was elected as one of hundred of Taiwan historic architecture by the Council for Cultural Affairs, Executive Yuan. However, the old bridge has retired with the fame now. Today, the car is forbidden to entrance. Donghe Sites:

River Mawuku origins from the east side of Coastal Mountains Range, running into the Pacific Ocean near Donghe, Taitung. At the north and the south sides of the sea terrace at the river mouth, eight prehistoric sites are found, ranging from the Paleolithic age to the copper age. The sites at the north and the south coast are also called as “Donghe sites.” Nowadays two Amis tribes remain gathering here. The old term of Donghe in Amis dialect, Jo-rih, is where the big and the small Makuru tribes locate.
The prehistoric culture lasted for a long time. The earliest one is Changbin Culture, found at the lower layer of the north Donghe III site. The population wasn’t much during that period. They dwelled in the natural wave-eroded cave, forming a small band society, mainly foraging by fishing, hunting and fruit collecting. Their daily tools are made from gravel, such like stone hack, stone knife and quartz scraper. They hadn’t known to sharpen the stone implement and to produce pottery.
