How to choose a bikeCycling doesn't take only 3 or 5 minutes, even using it as a transport, comfort for riding is still important, therefore, choosing a suitable cycle for yourself is essential. A good cycle is basically comfortable and is able to transfer your body energy to motive power. A good cycle doesn't require high prices. Therefore, before purchasing, one should study what is suitable.

Selecting the frame

Most of the sizes of the mountain bikes in Taiwan are 14, 16, 17, and 18 inches. The touring bikes can be divided into 16 sizes by the length of seat stay, from 47 to 62cm (one size with one centimeter different). To calculate it, time the distance from the crotch to the ground by 0.65.

Mountain Bikes

Size Suitable Height
14 under 155cm
16 155cm~170cm
18 over 170cm
20 over 180cm

Touring Bikes

Valid length of seat stay Suitable Height
50 under 163cm
51 163cm~168cm
52 168cm~173cm
54 173cm~177cm
55 178cm~181cm
56 181cm~185cm
58 over 185cm

It is recommended that: nearest size > smaller size > larger size. Choosing the wrong size is not going to ruin your life, but it will give you sore muscles. Therefore, pay attention when you choose so you won't regret on your purchase.

Materials of the Frame

The frame is the soul of a cycle. A good frame should have light weight, strong solid, and high rigidity.

Aluminium Alloy
Aluminium alloy fram provides lightweight, sensitivity, and high rigidity. However it also transfers every vibration from the ground the the comfort is slightly reduced.

Carbon Fiber

The carbon fiber frame provides elasticity, riding stability, continuity for long-distanced travailing, and great comfort.

Titanium Alloy

The characteristics of the titanium alloy is similar to the combination of aluminum alloy and carbon fiber. It provides the elasticity of carbon fiber and the lightweight and rigidity of aluminum alloy. However, there benefits require higher prices than other materials.

Alloy Steel

Steel is the traditional material for cycle frames. The modern alloy steel provides great results on rigidity, elasticity, transmission, and stability. However, the only disadvantage is that steel is heavier than other materials.
