Known Hualien
Analysis of Traffic
Si-Hua
The commute in and out of Hualien relies mainly on highways, secondary on the railway, and very few on the air and sea transportation. Province Highway No.9 is the main highway that connects the south and the north. It passes through the East Rift Valley, connects the entrance of Taroko at the north with the No.8 Highway (the well-known Central Cross-Island Highway), which is an important connection to the west coast. At Tayu Mountain, the No.8 reaches No.14 Chia Hwy, then heads to Chingching, where it connects to the No.14 Hwy and leads to Tsaotun and Puli. Carrying on toward north at No.9 will reach Su'ao. Either continuing on the No.9 or changing to No.2 Hwy., you can reach the National No.5 Highway (also called Chiang Wei-Shui Memorial Freeway of Beiyi Freeway). Towards the south from No.9 Highway, it leads to Chishang in Taitung, here you can connect to the No.20 (the Southern Cross-Island Highway) and reach Chiahsian in Tainan , or continue traveling towards south to arrive Fenggang in Pingtung.
Speaking of the air transportation, currently there are only 5 flights of TransAsia Airways flying to Taipei, 3 flights (Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday) to Taichung, and one flight of Mandarin Airlines to Kaohsiung. There are also very few commercial and postal ships getting in port occasionally, but don't have serious functions.
