Subject Teachers: Ms. Huicheng Tsang
I have taught Chinese, math, music and social study, and I am teaching music now. I have a lot of students. Some of them are the seniors, and some are the new immigrants, who move to Taiwan because of the marriage. It is not easy to teach at first, because the students are in different age and level. Although having much life experience, the seniors have difficulties with words learning, and they also suffer from short memory. Therefore we need to encourage them more and adjust the teaching material for them. Compared to students in the elementary school, these students in the night school prefer less active class. They like to sit and read. The goal of coming to night school is also different. They come to school to learn more knowledge to make their life easier. Therefore they are here voluntarily and happily. There are many skills needed when teaching music. They are the skills to attract their attention and enhance their learning interests. The senior students love some old Taiwanese song rather than Chinese popular music. However, for those young new immigrants, it is on the contrary. When teaching a new song, I will let them listen to it first, and then do the example. I will ask them to read the lyrics and get familiar with the melody. Sometime I will use the certain instrument to make it easier. I think we can have some new course in the night school, such as English or computer. They have more chance to travel around the world, this maybe useful for them. |
