I have taught social study and music in night school. I am teaching Chinese now. There are about 30 students in my class. Most of them are already grandmothers. There are also a few new immigrants—the foreign brides. Compared to teaching children, the method of teaching adults is different. For example, I would speak more Taiwanese to help them understand and the words on the blackboard should be bigger and clearer for their bad eye sight. Besides, repetition of the teaching material is also important.
I felt tired at the beginning of teaching in the night school. I had to teach from eight o’clock in the morning to four o’clock in the afternoon in the elementary school, and other two hours in the evening in the night school. However I was very touched by the learning attitude of those night school students. They love learning, and never get tired. They even do double homework spontaneously.
In my opinion, besides learning how to read and write, we can create specific teaching material, such as life-related courses for night school students.
