Origin
Ms. Shu-Chen Chuang is committed to the teaching and
promotion of bird conservation. Therefore, he is a pioneer in the
promotion of bird conservation at the Changan Elementary School, and is
respected by the teachers and students of the school. This time, I hope
to use the rich experience of the teacher to let us further understand
the ecology of birds.
Interview 1.Why are you interested in bird watching?
I participated in a teacher training at Guandu Nature
Park in 2004, and I have enjoyed bird watching since then.
2.Where would you recommend us to bird watch?
When I first started bird watching, I mostly focused on
the Greater Taipei area. After my retirement, I went to Kinmen, Penghu,
Orchid Island for bird watching. As for you, I suggest you go to Taipei
Botanical Garden, Daan Forest Park, National Taiwan University campus,
Guandu Nature Park, and Neikou River. In addition, Guandu Nature Park,
Huajiang Wild Duck Nature Park is more suitable for bird watching.
3.What should I pay attention to when watching birds?
First, you’d better wear clothes in natural color,
such as green. If you are going to watch birds in the forest, you can
wear a hat to prevent caterpillars on the tree from falling on you. It
is best to wear long sleeves and trousers, you should protect from
sunburns and mosquitoes in the summer. You should keep warm in the
winter, and you can ask parents to buy a pair of binoculars for you,
and then carry a backpack to free your two hands. So that it is easy
for you to operate with your hands. Because you are just getting
started, you should bring bird illustrated handbook pictures. You may
not know some birds, so you can check the illustrated hand book after
you have seen it, and identify what species it belongs to.
4.Which bird impresses you the most?
Basically, I like all the native birds in Taiwan
very much. There is one special bird I want to introduce. Generally,
most birds will feed their own children. There is a bird called Asian
koel. This kind of bird does not build nests and does not brood. It
lays eggs in the nest of other birds, and lets other birds hatch eggs
and brood for him.
5.What kind of birds can be observed on Changan Elementary School campus?
In addition to spotted-necked turtledove, Taiwan barbet,
there are Warbling white-eye, tiger bittern, Rufous turtle dove, black
bulbul, magpie, white wagtail, sparrow, and light-vented bulbul. The
chicks of grey treepie are on our campus. We can make a bold guess, it
probably has a nest on our campus. These are what we can see on campus.
There are few migratory birds on our campus, but I have recorded
Daurian redstart and brown shrike. |
