Origin
Mr. Shi-Yao Chen is one of the guides of bird
ecology in Daan Forest Park. He introduced us a lot of common birds and
conservation knowledge in Daan Forest Park. Let us take a look at the
following interview.
Interview 1.How long have you been a volunteer?
This year is the tenth year. Actually, I haven’t
seen birds before volunteering. Everyone feels incredible. One day my
wife said that there was volunteer recruitment and if I would like to
try it. I had no experience at that time, but I learn slowly from
scratch. After 10 years I have known some birds. I feel great!
2.What should we do before the guided tour?
Each environment and bird environment are different, and
the birds we see in different environments are different. Daan Forest
Park is a metropolitan park. We can see birds that are common in our
daily life. In fact, there are many kinds of birds near the
neighborhood parks. There is a chance to see them.
3.Which birds do you think are most worth introducing to the public?
We can see birds like light-vented bulbul, warbling
white-eye, or Tiger bittern in the metropolitan area. We also see a
crested goshawk eating brown shrike and rats. There is chances to find
them hatching near the pond, especially in summer, and also see the
children of cattle egret, little egret or night heron are hatched, and
they have hairy head. We come to see them hatching in the summer, and
then we can see different birds in winter. It is a very nice bird
watching environment in Taiwan all through the four seasons.
4.What conditions does the park have to allow so many birds to inhabit it?
In fact, birds are just like people. They would like to
stay for a long time in the suitable environment. Since Daan Forest
Park has enough land and water pools, there are water birds. Since it
has trees and the shady place, different bird species will be
attracted. So, in a big enough space where people will not hurt the
birds, or catch them, they will get along better with us.
The Wild Bird Society of Taipei will plan a route as long
as there are activities. So if you follow the activity, there will be
about 30-40 routine routes planned with different seasons. Since there
are more water birds in winter, we tend to walk the route near the
water. In summer, we will plan routes towards parks and metropolitan
areas. So we will watch different birds in different seasons.
5.Does the appearance of the crested goshawk represent the formation of a food chain for birds in this area?
Because the raptors are usually at the top of the food
chain, the crested goshawk is in Daan Forest Park, and a life circle
has gradually been established on the campus of the National Taiwan
University. To see the crested goshawk, we can see it in Daan Forest
Park and do not need to go to places far away. |
