Mr. Sheng-Chieh Hsu is the activity team leader of
the Wild Bird Society of Taipei. He has extensive experience as a guide
and commentator, and has also been well received.
Interview 1.How long have you been a volunteer? What is the organizational division of volunteers?
I joined the Wild Bird Society of Taipei in 2013. I
have been watching bird watching with my dad since I was a kid. After
veteran, I participated in the basic training of the Society, knowing
bird knowledge, flying, identifying, and promoting environmental
conservation, etc. As a volunteer, I am mainly responsible for the
environment promotional commentary, routine activity commentary; and I
work full time to do some environmental services, administrative
business, and analysis of research data.
2.What should we do before the guided tour?
To understand all birds, the indispensable is a bird
illustrated handbook with graphic representation. The most important
thing is to participate in routine activities with us, observe the
surroundings and conduct in-depth research. We need to explain the
ecology data survey of wild birds.
3.What are the main features of Guandu Nature Park?
Guandu Nature Park is a very important wetland in Taipei.
It is divided into core areas and conservation areas. Conservation
areas are places where researchers can conduct surveys and analysis.
Usually we can also take people to walk around to explain the important
parts of environmental conservation. The operation projects include
appreciation for recreation, research and investigation, conservation
and promotion of our environmental education, so that people understand
that the conservation of Guandu Nature Park is not only about bird, but
an important part of all ecology.
4.What do you think is the most worth introducing to the public?
I think what we want to protect is the importance and the
native species of creatures and birds that inhabit here. If we can't
even protect the native species, then it means we can’t protect other
species. This is our greatest worry.
5.How to find birds quickly and determine the species?
There are more than 10,000 bird species of 88 families in
the world, and there are about 670 species in Taiwan. There are more
than 300 common bird species. Birds like to inhabit and conduct
everyday activities in the middle, lower or canopy of the tree. The
birds living environment is the mountains, the plains or the seashore.
We can learn about the bird flight method, favorite habitat, bird
classification. I suggest going with our weekly routine activities. You
will have a preliminary understanding of Taipei City environment and
mountain environment after you go with our weekly routine activities
for one year. |
