Mr. Yueh-Hui Chen
Origin
Mr. Yueh-Hui Chen is a very qualified and professional bird guide. It is hoped that this interview can understand the current situation of Huajiang Wild Duck Nature Park.
Interview
1.How long have you been serving as a volunteer at the Wild Bird Society of Taipei?
I joined the Wild Bird Society of Taipei in 1978. At that time, a friend living in my neighborhood was a volunteer of the Wild Bird Society of Taipei. When I heard that there were some Wild Ducks migrating in Huajiang, I came to watch birds with him. Since then, I joined the Wild Bird Society of Taipei, and have been serving as a volunteer till now.
2.What qualifications and training do I need to be a volunteer?
First of all, you must be elder than 20 and have some basic knowledge of birds if you want to be a member of the Wild Bird Society of Taipei. One year after joining the Wild Bird Society of Taipei, you will join the training for tour guide and commentator, and after passing the class practice to approval, you will be officially issued a tour guide certificate on the Wild Bird Society of Taipei member conference by the next year.
3.What should I do before the tour?
You should be familiar with the ecology, routes and environment of birds, and you should go to see how others guide and explain them. After a period of training, your skills and your enthusiasm for birds will become stronger and stronger. Of course, you do not necessarily to be a narrator, you can also be a member of a research team member responsible for bird surveys.
4.What is the most interesting part of the guided tour?
Because we use quite a lot of 3C products now, we hope to be able to get out of the outdoors and get more exposure to some green plant environment, so that our eyes can get a proper rest. In addition, we can improve bird knowledge and understanding of the ecological environment by going outside. It is also hoped to protect these wetlands by understanding the ecological environment.
5.How to introduce Wild Duck Nature Park to the public?
Huajiang Wild Duck Nature Park mostly has water birds, most of which are winter migratory birds and water birds. However, after the wetlands have hardened, the number of water birds has become less and less. Birds are an indicator of the natural environment. When the environment is good, there will be more migratory birds coming in. After the environment has deteriorated, these migratory birds will be gone. Therefore, more than 10,000 teals in the past decreased to only about 60 teals at present. The total number of water birds has become quite small, indicating the habitat has gradually deteriorated.
6.What do you personally feel about bird watching?
I hope that through our observation of birds, we can let the people have some understanding about birds. Sometimes we will feel powerless. When we take you to see the changes in the environment, you will feel very powerless, because the municipal government does not pay much attention to the ecological environment we live in. Therefore, it depends on us, and other enthusiastic people to explain the changes in the environment, so that they can work hard for the environmental they live in.

7.Do you have any tips on looking for a bird and identifying the species?
In addition to watching more, you should follow the activities of the Wild Bird Society of Taipei, and you will know what kind of birds are in this place if you participate in the activities for a long time. When you see a tree or reed shaking gently, you can scan with your eyes. Of course, good telescopes are also very important. Don't buy bad telescopes. You can buy small binoculars first. If you follow senior birders, you will learn what birds you can see in that place.
8.What should the general public pay special attention to when watching birds?
Of course, the first thing you need is to have a telescope to watch birds. You can follow the bird watching team of the Wild Bird Society of Taipei or listen to the station commentator. There is a saying in the Wild Bird Society of Taipei that "Do nothing but photography" and "Leave nothing except the footprint". We shall not leave any garbage where we walk through with our feet. So this is what we must pay attention to in the wild.

Conclusion
Every year, teals will come to Taiwan to pass the winter, but the environment has changed in recent years, and the number of teals has become less and less. Such records also tell us that the decrease in habitat area will make this group of guests from the north area no longer visit in the future. This is a great damage to the ecology.
