Interesting

For our research topic "Chi Sing Irrigation Association", we inspected for 3 times; and we also visited the president Zhou Shiwen to learn about the history, objectives, and service items of Chi Sing Irrigation Association. Each activity gave me a lot of knowledge. I saw harvesters crop rice fields, I witnessed the beauty and destruction sight of the source of hot spring, and I felt amazed at the spectacular view when the rubber dam deflated. Even though that we had to spend the lunch break time to collect and type the data, everyone still had fun and our mood was great being together from this experience. With these little matters, I hoped the time ran faster so we could conduct the study of the Cyberfair at our lunch break time.

Frustration to achievement

The Cyberfair research at this time was not the same as we had had before, and the biggest difference was that we conducted several onsite inspections; and each time, the theme and content to inspect was different. At first, I thought the irrigation association was deep and enigmatic, I had no slightest idea what it was doing, and I had a question if such an association was worthy of research. Then later, I achieved something great after I asked team leader Lin a few questions and told my own opinions; I could even conduct the report in front of school students comfortably.

The other matter to mention was web page design, although I had learned the how-to before, but since I didn’t edit web pages very often, I forgot the procedures; so when our teacher asked us to create an animation, I simply did it from my memory and still I couldn't make it, I figured that maybe I should ask my teacher to do it for me, so it was such a frustration to mention; fortunately our teacher was very kind and considerate in helping me and let me do it step-by-step, my frustration was removed gradually; and when I saw my animation post on the web page, I realizes our effort was worthwhile.

Learning

For the CyberFair, we inspected many locations, and I learned a lot from these experiences. At the first inspection, I learned about the function of water gate; and at the next inspection, I learned to test the water quality with the water quality detector, I even learned to use it on my own; and I witnessed the pollution at the hot spring area, I understood the side effect of the processed hot spring. We paid a visit to the current president of the Chi-Sing Irrigation Association; I learned to conduct an interview. I kept the record from each of the inspections, along with our opinions, and the recorded voice files. We edited the information from the previous inspections and made briefing for the 4th to 6th grade students to listen and understand.

I also learned many applications, such as the Google form to create questionnaires, and Coggle to create mind maps, it was my first-time experience to use these two application programs, they were unfamiliar to me originally; but after I learned them, I found these programs were useful and applicable to everyday's use.

Growth

From this activity, I have learned a lot of knowledge; for instance, I learned to use Google form for creating questionnaires, PowerDirector for editing aerial videos for publicity purpose, Powerpoint for the briefing, and Coggle for creating mind maps; so I’ve learned many computer skills, it would be very useful for me to apply in my 6th grade study. After the 3 inspections, I realized many relevant issues of the irrigation association, such as the fact that the hot spring water at Xingyi Road is artificially processed, the insufficient water source for irrigation use, the pH values of the water suitable for irrigation, and various irrigation facilities that I have never heard of before.

Team leader Lin, who conducted the guide tour, was very enthusiastic, he let us know the problems the irrigation association has to deal with one by one; such as why hot spring water creates pollution, why there is insufficient water supply for irrigation, why the government isn't serious about the pollution caused by the hot spring, etc. And what impressed me most from the 3 inspections we had was the Zhoumei Rubber Dam. The reason to build the rubber dam was to prevent the sea water from coming in, and to release the water during typhoon season and to stop floods. We also saw the deflection of the rubber dam, which was spectacular; everyone was amazed at the view! I learned the function the rubber dam from the inspection! And from this Cyberfair, I've learned a lot of different knowledge, if we could apply the knowledge in daily use, then the learning from these days will be quiet worthwhile!
