Water Diversion |
In the original Baxian Canal, there was a special waterway which surprised us. There was an old waterway near the Taipei Veterans General Hospital in Shipai; but for the sake of urban disaster prevention, the old waterway was sealed up, and the unpolluted water was directed to the Sulfur creek which was polluted by the hot springs water in the east side.

According to team leader Lin, if we want to improve the water quality with low pH by raising one mark, we need 10 times the volume of good water to neutralize it. The pH value of the water measured in Sulfur creek is about 4.64; there are no organisms in the stream as a result; so it sounds like a fairy tale if we want to increase the overall volume of water in the Sulfur creek, under the present circumstances.

Therefore, leader Lin's team decided to open the old sealed waterway to let the good water directly flow to the downstream irrigation area. After the completion of the project, leader Lin and his team returned to the site and found surprising changes: they saw that the fish appears in the waterway, which means the ecology of the waterway has slowly recovered. This was a surprise as no one had ever dreamed about; leader Lin joked about it's like a wonderful error.
