Activity experience:

Today is the first day of our Cyberfair community gathering, the teacher immediately asked us to pay full attention, because the research time was relatively shorter, so we couldn't take things slowly. After a brief introduction to know each other, the teacher showed us the collaboration platform and taught us how to use it.

Usually the teacher will also publish the relevant information at the platform, so we can use our spare time to carry out research with our mobile phones or tablets. It was the first time I used the collaboration platform, and I found the function of it was really powerful, so I was looking forward to using it.

Activity experience:

This was our first time for the field inspection activity, we were all excited. The first location we visited was inside the lane located at the Sec. 7 of Chengde road, the first facility was water gates and waterway.

At the first sight, I felt the waterway was dirty, more like a stinky sewer; I saw animals were in the water moving around. Team leader Lin surprised us by telling the fact that only fish and shrimps living in the water does it mean the water is good for irrigation purpose, so I changed my opinion about the waterway. Then we came to Guandu Plain to see the farmers use harvesters to crop rice fields, we were amazed at such a view; and we saw the drivers were so cool to drive their harvesters for cropping rice field with straight directions on the field.

We also saw the water gate guide the water into the rice field. The last location was flower field at Guandu Plain, it was the result of communication between the Irrigation Association, the government and farmers, the farmland is used for growing flowers at fallow time; the government provides relevant resources; planting flowers in fallow period in the farmland not only promotes sightseeing, but also acts as flower fertilizer directly right after the flowers wither. It really is “two birds in one fell swoop”! The Irrigation Association really impressed us.

Activity experience:

Today is the field research inspection activity we have expected for so long. After the explanation of team leader Lin, we understood the most important thing for the Irrigation Association to do is to guarantee the irrigation water for farmland, and the water quality has to be suitable for irrigation. It really isn't easy to reach this goal. Particularly when team leader Lin brought us to the hot spring area, we realized the serious situation of the water pollution caused by hot spring area.

We first came to "Longfeng Valley", the leader indicated a sulfur there and said the hot spring water isn't natural, clean water is infused with sulfur and water is extracted to create hot spring; but such water isn't irrigable for farmland. Hot spring pipelines spread all over the place, resulting in the destruction of the nature, we were all speechless. We then learned to use water quality detector and instrument to test the sulfur-free, the result showed the water there was good.

At the upstream of hot spring area, we saw sluicegate; the team leader told us that, thanks to the function of sluicegate, so we still have little water unpolluted and suitable for the farmland at the downstream; the testing of water quality showed OK.

The last location was Sulfur creek, the water there was clean; but after our testing of water quality, the pH value indicated only 4, not irrigable as it was; team leader informed us it is pity water there is not usable. The Irrigation Association keeps working with the government, and the hot spring business owners for communication, they hope to reduce the pollution to the lowest degree possible. They have some improvement but it is still not enough.

The task is difficult, but the Irrigation Association will keep working to solve the problem. Team leader wished that he could let more people know the problem, through our research and study. We felt responsible for this situation and decided to come up with the research to let more people cherish the water sources.

Activity experience:

With the 2 inspections and the collected information, we decided to integrate from scratch, we first classified briefly the information, and the teacher showed us reference of mind maps from the seniors and asked us to come up with our own mind maps. We even decided to adopt the online version, namely Coggle, to create the mind maps for Cyberfair. It was the first experience for us to use this application program, we all felt amazed and were able to get the hang of it very shortly; even the grade 5 girls formed a team for every two persons for collaboration! I was impressed by my teacher who used the online resources to teach us, he was awesome.

Today is a special day, because team leader Lin of the Irrigation Association taught us how to use the Taipei City History GIS Display System to understand the irrigation areas the Irrigation Association is responsible for and the directions of the rivers, so we then realized there was such a system; with the channel map uploaded by the Irrigation Association creates, we could clearly see the channels supervised by the Association. Then leader Lin used the comparison function for the old and new maps so we understood how the waterways were created in the past and how the waterways were changed to adapt to the urban development. We thanked team leader Lin who gave us a very precious lesson.

Activity experience:

Previously, our teacher showed us the aerial video created by the Irrigation Association, we then realized there is such beautiful rice field in Taipei city; then someone came up with an idea to make the aerial video the opening of the school publicity at the next semester, we agreed it was a brilliant idea. Our teacher then taught us how to use PowerDirector for video editing; and since the grade 6 girls had learned the skills before, so the teacher put the focus on me and Chia-Tong; therefore we learned from the teacher step by step; but for the videos and the music, we picked them on our own. After this work was done, I felt my computer skills have improved once again.

Activity experience:

Today is the 3rd time inspection, although there was a little rain, but we still felt excited to start the journey.

We first came to the Zhoumei Rubber Dam, it is a special location, which uses the rubber dam to inflate/deflect for controlling and releasing of the water volume: it inflates when water is in shortage and water is pumped back into the dam for the farmland irrigation; and it deflates to release water in case of heavy rain or typhoon so as to prevent from flooding at the farmland. And we visited the weir, its function is a little like that of rubber dam, except it uses sluicegate to control water volume; it looks like the function of reservoir to me. And lastly we visited the Guandu water pumping station; it was built by the Irrigation Association with its own fund.

Because of the fact that every time it rains, the water can't be released immediately, causing disaster; so for the lower area, the Association built this pumping station, with the function of inverted siphon to enable the water to pass through the pipes and go across the road to the farmland at the other side. We were all amazed.

Activity experience:

Before we leave today, everyone's wondering what the president is like. Since the Irrigation Association encounters many difficult problems, it requires wisdom and patience to solve problems.

To our surprise, the president is a kind guy, firstly he gave us warm welcome by saying we were very awesome because we were willing to study the Irrigation Association, and he appreciated our effort. We felt embarrassed for such an appreciation; and when we started to ask questions to the president, he used simple and understandable words and real-life examples to explain to us.

From the interview of the president, we understood the Irrigation Association is enthusiastic in helping solving the issues of irrigation water, and creates foundations to repay the society; and sometimes they help to be the coordinator between the farmers and the government, they are very hard-working.

Activity experience:

I found the activity of training quiet interesting, because I learned to create simple animation. The teacher taught us to mask the mug shot using Photocap, we kept the head portion only; I completed masking of two photos with different facial expressions. Using Flash software, we put the masked head into the cute version of school uniform; with 0.5 second interval, I placed other facial expression, and exported the same as GIF animations, so I completed my own cute mug shot animation, it was very interesting. And during the production, we were all amused by our own exaggerated expressions; I was so desperate in seeing my own cute mug shot animation at the webpage.

Activity experience:

Today is the highlight of our activity; we gathered at Le-Xue Hall early in the morning to practice for the last time. When the chime of bell rang, the activity started. The aerial video we edited was played firstly, telling us the field is the Guandu Plain; I could hear a whisper of amazement; I believed they never thought there is a green rice field in Taipei city! Then came the key content of the activity, everybody reported with fluency; and when we proceeded to the part about the hot spring area, I understood the senior wished to express the idea clearly so everybody could understand. When it came to the water quality testing, there was a feedback by students that the view was blocked, so we moved the table aside. I was responsible for the testing of pH values, the demonstration was done smoothly. And when it came to the prize-winning quiz, most of the questions were answered very shortly, except one which was about the question of the foundations; it took us longer time to answer. Lastly, the director provided us with additional key points, along with praise and suggestion; the president gave his suggestion too. I learned a lot from the activity, so I believe I could do better next time for reporting.
