Irrigation area introduction

I. Business Area

Beitou, Shilin, Nangang, Neihu Districts in Taipei City, and Xizhi District in New Taipei City. Geographically, it is at the area from the south of the Datun Mountain Range, the Keelung River, the southeast of the Wuzhi Mountain Range, the Nangang Mountain Range, and to the Dajian Mountain of Xizhi; it belongs to the northern and eastern side of the Taipei basin. It is mainly located in the Datun Volcano Group and the Taipei Basin, and has the three kinds of terrain, including mountains, basin and hills. The slope orientation is descended from north to south and from west to east. The northern mountains are volcanic terrain, and the western mountains tend to arrayed from northeast to the southwest.

II. Climate

In the business area of our association, the annual average number of rainfall days is 160, with an annual average rainfall volume over 2,200 millimeters. For each year, from February to April, it is called spring rains; from May to June, it is called plum rains; from July to September, it is a season of summer thunderstorms and typhoon rains; and the northeast monsoon season in autumn and winter is from October to January the next year.

III. Water Sources

Most of the irrigation waterways in our association are from river surface water: In the Beitou area, the water sources are the Sulfur creek, Shuimokeng creek and Guizikeng creek; in the Shilin area, the water source is Shuangxi; in the Neihu area, the water source is Neigou stream; in the Nangang and Xizhi areas, the water sources are the reservoirs with surface runoff.

IV. Agricultural Characteristics

The irrigation area in our association is distributed in plain and mountainous hilly terrain, in which rice is mainly planted in the plain, and the main planting area is in Guandu Plain. The early ancestors industriously and thriftily pioneered the land, they plough the mountainous hills from the garden into terraced field to grow rice, and now the farmers plant citrus, strawberries, green bamboo shoots, yam, high-cold vegetables, flowers and horticultural planting and other crops; different types of agricultural gardens provide not only the products of vegetables and fruits, but also the places of recreation, education, society, environmental protection, and other purposes for the people in Taipei metropolitan.
