Preface

When life was difficult in the past, there were many beggars, homeless, and abandoned infants, some people therefore tried to help others with their selfless love, and even introduced western medicine into Taiwan. Western medicine was in fact already introduced to Taiwan in 1865, but was rejected by local Chinese physicians and residents. Nevertheless, the missionaries did not give up. Finally the public became acceptant of western medicine, and western medicine was spreaded deeply into the Taiwanese society, which was an important milestone of Taiwanese medicine. In this section, we would like to remember and thank the contribution of these celebrities, churches and missionaries to Taiwan. This touching feeling should be felt by all of us.
