Title: The first discussion (date: 2015/09/04)
Issues discussed:

  • Theme of the project and its scope

Conclusion:

  • Members proposed many great ideas, but because we couldn’t synchronize everyone’s opinions, no conclusion was achieved in this meeting. We decided to have another discussion on the theme of the project in our next meeting. 

The 2nd Report
Title: The second discussion regarding our project theme and its scope (date: 2015/09/04)
Issues discussed:

  • Synchronizing everyone’s opinion and deciding the theme and its scope
  • Discussing what tasks need to be done and distributing tasks

Conclusions:

  • We took a vote to decide the theme of our project:
  • Windmill (wind-generated power): 3 votes
  • Handcrafts like glass art: 1 vote
  • Bo-Pi Liao: 5 votes

“Bo-Pi Liao” was chosen to be the theme of our project.

The 3rd Report
Title: The first discussion regarding the layout of the website (date: 2015/09/18)
Issues discussed:

  • The structure of the homepage and the headline for each section

Conclusions:

  • By collecting the opinions of all members, we decided the basic structure of the website.
  • We named each section on the website. We encountered the same problems as when we discussed the theme. Also, the headlines need to be consistent with the content, which made it more difficult.  

The 4th Report
Title: The second discussion regarding the layout of the website and data collection (date: 2015/09/25)
Issues discussed:

  • Finishing the basic structure of the website and coming up with the headline for each section
  • Collecting information concerning Bo-Pi Liao

Conclusions

  • We corrected dissatisfactory parts from the previous discussions, contributing to a perfect basic structure for the website.
  • Perhaps because we already found a direction during our previous discussion, our discussion about the headlines was very smooth.

The 5th Report
Title: Discussion about the first field trip (date: 2015/10/16)
Issues discussed:

  • Calculating how many people are able to take part in the field trip
  • Discussing the meeting time, meeting point and transportation
  • Discussing questions for interviewing the instructor at Wanhua Technological University about producing leathers  

Conclusions:

  • Number of participants: 8 (1 member can’t take part due to work)
  • Meeting time: Between 9:00-10:00AM on 10/24; Meeting point: Zhongli Train Station; Transportation: train and MRT
  • As we couldn’t reach this instructor, we changed our plan to interview a staff at HCEC

The 6th Report
Title: Creating interview questions and survey questionnaire (date: 2015/10/23)
Issues discussed:

  • Questions for interviewing the staff at HCEC (20 questions in total)
  • Questions for the questionnaire for visitors (10 questions in total)

Conclusions:

  • Questions for the interview were mostly about local historic events and development visions.
  • Questions were mostly about visitors’ experiences and feelings.

The 7th Report
Title: The first field trip (date: 2015/10/24)
Issues discussed:

  • Visiting featured sites in Bo-Pi Liao (Longshan Temple, Herb Land, Liang Xi Hao Squid Soup)
  • Vising HCEC and interviewing its staff
  • Visiting local exhibitions
  • Conducting a questionnaire survey on visitors

Conclusions:

  • During this trip, we saw traces of Bo-Pi Liao’s history and smelled the fragrance of the hundred-year history. Every place we passed allowed us to learn more about Bo-Pi Liao. Local residents were friendly, passionate, and always willing to answer whatever they could when asked a question. Although a bit tired, we were very happy to have done this trip.   

The 8th Report
Title: Sorting out materials and adding new sites (date: 2015/10/30)
Issues discussed:

  • Sorting out information acquired from the first visit
  • Discussing and including new sites to visit

Conclusions:

  • We sorted out the photos taken during our first field trip and saved them into various categories. We also transcribed the recording of the interview.
  • New sites were added:

  • Qingshui Temple
  • Chow’s Porride
  • Longdu Ice Dessert Parlor
  • Hwaxi Street Night market

The 9th Report
Title: Discussion about the second field trip (date: 2015/11/06)
Issues discussed:

  • Calculating how many people are able to take part in the field trip
  • Discussing the meeting time, meeting point and transportation
  • Planning the route and timetable of the field trip

Conclusions:

  • Number of participants: 9 (all of the members would take part)
  • Meeting time: Between 9:00-10:00AM on 11/22; Meeting point: Zhongli Train Station; Transportation: train and MRT
  • Visiting route: Qingshangong Temple – Chow’s Porridge—Qingshui Temple—HCEC—Longdu Ice Dessert Parlor (Because some members can’t returned home too late, we canceled the visit to Hwaxi Street Night Market)

The 10th Report
Title: Creating sketches needed for the website (date: 2015/11/20)
Issues discussed:

  • Drawing a map of our visit
  • Drawing the buildings
  • Drawing caricatures of import figures

Conclusions:

  • It was very difficult to draw these subject, which required lots of time. (Also, a couple of members had no experiences in drawing, so couldn’t help each other.)

The 11th Report
Title: The second field trip (date: 2015/11/21)
Issues discussed:

  • Visiting featured sites in Bo-Pi Liao (Qingshangong Temple, Chow’s Porridge Qingshui Temple, HCC and Longdu Ice Dessert Parlor)
  • Taking more photos for the website

Conclusions:

  • During this trip, what we felt most strongly was “changes.” Walking inside the historic district was like walking on a street in the past. However, just when we indulged ourselves in this feeling, we stepped into the modern world again! From brick houses to steel and concrete, such a huge difference really made one drawn in complex feelings. The changes in times force these historical buildings to disappear, and the ones left, as well as the stories told by the locals are apparently the important source of documenting the history.    

The 12th Report
Title: Signing up for the Cyber Fair (date: 2015/12/11)
Issues discussed:

  • Filling up the application form
  • Discussing our team name and the Chinese title of our project

Conclusions:

  • We set up our account and password, email address and provided the personal information of each team member as well as information about our team
  • After discussion, we decided to name our team “Peeled Chill Pepper,” and the project was named “A History Unraveled.”

The 13th Report
Title: Sorting out materials (2) and individuals’ review (date: 2015/12/18)
Issues discussed:

  • Sorting out information collected during the 2nd field trip
  • Individuals’ review of the trip

Conclusions:

  • We sorted out photos taken during the second field trip and saved them in different categories
  • Every team member wrote his or her own review of the field trip, and created a word document of it.

The 14th Report
Title: A new member and creating sketches for the website (2) (date: 2015/12/25)
Issues discussed:

  • A new member joined our team
  • Finishing all sketches needed for the website

Conclusions:

  • Because the new member Lin Guo-Huei could help us with the sketches, we recruited him to our team.
  • We finished all the sketches required for the website, including drawings of the buildings, maps and caricatures of important figures.

The 15th Report
Title: Statistical tables and descriptions (date: 2015/12/29)
Issues discussed:

  • Creating tables that describe the results of the questionnaire survey (10 tables in total)
  • Describing and analyzing the survey results

Conclusions:

  • Tables were created based on the answers to each question
  • Based on the tables and charts, we described the results and analyzed what reasons might have caused the results 

The 16th Report
Title: Personal reviews and selection of photos (date: 2015/01/08)
Issues discussed:

  • Collecting and revising all members’ personal review 
  • Selecting photos suitable for the website

Conclusions:

  • We collected and sorted out the personal reviews that members wrote earlier, and revised any inappropriate parts.
  • We went through photos that were previously categorized and selected suitable photos for the website based on the website layout.

The 17th Report
Title: Deciding the style of the homepage and side pages of the website (date: 2015/01/15)
Issues discussed:

  • Discussing the homepage and side pages of the website

Conclusions:

  • Homepage: using hand-drawn sketches to present the beauty of the historic buildings in Bo-Pi Liao (to be determined)
  • Side pages: using flowers, maple leaves and animals to enrich and decorate the pages (to be determined)

The 18th Report
Title: Basic layout of the website (date: 2015/01/21)
Issues discussed:

  • Discussing the font, size and color of the texts on the website

Conclusions:

  • Adjusting each page individually based on the subject and layout.
  • Deleting data that could not contribute to the subjects and adding new materials that are more relevant.

The 19th Report
Title: Videos on the website and the making of animation clips (date: 2015/01/22)
Issues discussed:

  • Making “Behind the Scenes” video
  • Making animation clips that would be used on the side pages

Conclusions:

  • We started the video with an introduction of the project and then included photos of us working on the project.  .
  • The hand-drawn maple leaves on the side page were made to fall off gradually

The 20th Report
Title: The first discussion about individual pages’ layout and design (date: 2015/01/23)
Issues discussed:

  • Whether a button of “Back to the Main Menu” should be added on each side page
  • Adjusting the structure, adding a section of anecdotes
  • For the references, whether URL links should be included or they should be copied and their sources being noted.
  • Discussing which sketches should be used for the tour of the website 

Conclusions:

  • Because the content on each page is unique, we had to spend more time working on the design and layout of each page. As the deadline approached, everyone clearly became more stressed.  

The 21st Report
Title: Various tasks on the website (1) (date: 2015/01/26)
Issues discussed:

  • Designing the font for the animation clips
  • Post production of the photos and sketches
  • Completing the prototype of the website

Conclusions:

  • We finished the font design for the map, page footer and headlines
  • We cropped and composed photos that will be used on the website
  • The prototype of the website was simulated by Dreamweaver

The 22nd Report
Title: Various tasks on the website (2) (date: 2015/01/27)
Issues discussed:

  • Subtitles for the animation clips
  • Designing the buttons on the welcome page

Conclusions:

  • Some team members have other plans for the winter vacation, so only some of us came to school to finish the project

The 23rd Report

  • Finishing the animation clips
  • Finishing the post-production of the images
  • Reviewing and strengthening out the website content

Conclusions:

  • Because the team member who was in charge of website design could not be there, we had to ask for help from another of our classmates, who knows how to design websites

The 24th Report

  • Designing the background of the welcome page

Conclusions:

  • We gave our text to a teacher at another school for translation and assistance

Conclusions:

  • The welcome page was completed, and the entire website is 80% ready.

The 26th Report

  • The animation file disappeared
  • Revising the texts in the animation clip

Conclusions:

  • Since we couldn’t find the file, we had to redo the work. Filing saving and backup are really important!

The 27th Report
Title: Website design (date: 2015/02/03)

  • Adjusting website layout
  • Setting up text font on the website

Conclusions:

  • It was the final stage of making the website. Our project is almost completed. 

The 28th Report
Title: Corrections and adjustments (date: 2015/02/04)
Issues discussed:

  • Correcting mistakes and inappropriate expressions in the texts.
  • Adjusting the size of images used on the website

Conclusions:

  • Minor adjustments were made to create a better visual effect of the website

The 29th Report
Title: International Cyber Fair (date: 2015/02/05)
Issues discussed:

  • Translating the text and creating the English website
  • Checking the English website and correcting mistakes

Conclusions:

  • Because we were not so familiar with English, it took us more time than expected. 

The 30th Report

  • Checking the website for the last time
  • Revising the work journals on the Chinese website

Conclusions:

  • The website is finally completed and uploaded.
