Dacheng Hall-The Appearance of the Construction


The Dacheng Hall is the main building of the Confucius Temple. Confucius and his followers are worshiped here. Meng Zi said that Confucius was the greatest scholar in China. ˇ§greatestˇ¨ in Chinese is sounded as Da Cheng. It is the origin of the hallˇ¦s name.

The roof of the Dacheng Hall is designed as two layers of eaves. The hall plane is the rectangle. Two sides is ornamented by stone lions.

The roof of Dacheng Hall is Xie-Shan two folders style. It means that there are room collars on the four sides of the hall. Around the hall are pillars to let the hall become more solemn. The plane of the Dacheng Hall is a square. Its width is five rooms wide placed on a platform. It is surrounding by pillars. There is a Yu lu stone on the ladders of the platform. There are nine steps of the ladder, two sides are decorated with stone lions. The carvings on bricks is an unique design in Changhua Confucius Temple. The designer used ˇ§rough and unevenˇ¨ skill to project some icons with special meanings. On the main spine of the roof is decorated with two dragons. On other spines are decorated with owls. There is a pair of door pillars in the center of the porch, which is made by white stone with carvings of dragon. It was set up in 1830. Its style is simple. Other door pillars are in star-shaped

here are lots of ˇ§Chi Xiaoˇ¨ on the roof . ˇ§Chi Xiaoˇ¨ is a kind of owl. It is said this kind of owl is ferocious but still tamed by Confucius knowledge.
