※Little Weather Angels -- Reflections on the Interview
After reading master Lu Quan-En’s book, watching news report about him, and some introduction from school teachers, we were looking forward to visit master Lu and his weather station. With proper preparation, we arrived at his house according to our appointment and began our first face-to-face interview. We were able to talk with him at close range, listened to his learning process, the history and hardships about building the weather station. It was a important lesson outside of our regular class – either about weather or life. The following are our reflections on Team Pika’s interview of master Lu Quan-En: |

Yun-Zhen’s reflections
I am very surprised when we arrive at his house. Although it is a simple house, I am amazed that it can provide morning and evening weather information for Hemei townsmen every day. After entering the house, Mr. Chong-Qin makes clear our intention and our team captain asks first. When it’s my turn to ask questions, I grow very nervous. Master’s kindness and smile ease my tension a lot. His detailed answers are more professional than information in our textbooks.
Later, weather master invites us to see his weather station, and we all say yes at the same time!! Even if we have to climb up two ladders to the scary roof, we are not afraid. We insist on seeing what kind of weather station that provides accurate weather information for us. We take turns going up because the space can only accommodate several people each time. Everyone is very excited to take a look at it. Those went up all speak about the great view. Climbing up is not an issue, the scary part is climbing down!! Finally it is my turn. After seeing the weather station, I am more impressed by weather master!! Although he does not have perfect, delicate instruments like CWB, he still provides us accurate weather information. It is amazing!! After this interview, I have further understanding about weather. I also learn about his determined, never give up attitude!! I am thankful for his inspiration. Ru-En’s reflections When we arrive at his house, we are all very surprised. It is unimaginable that he can have such accurate measurement in this small townhouse. He is also able to upload the latest weather information to the internet for Hemei residents. His reputation is well deserved. We go up to the third floor and begin to ask him some questions. We also have his book autographed by him and take photos with him. Master invites us to see his observation station. We are not afraid of danger and all want to be the first person going up. The place can only accommodate four people each time, so we take turns in three groups. Everyone who has gone up speaks about the great view. Finally it is my turn. I think it is easy climbing up but much harder climbing down. When I am climbing down, my legs are shaking because it is too scary, and my heart almost leaps out!! My parents, master and I take a photo together. At the end of the visit, we all take a group photo together in front of master’s house. This interview visit comes to an end. We learn more weather knowledge from master Lu Quan-En. We also understand that this study requires tireless efforts to achieve ideal results. Master says that he can continue to do weather study because of his passion. He makes me realize that a person can devote to his passion without reservation or asking for nothing in return. I wish we can all emulate him. |
