※Hands-On Weather Study -- Hemei Weather Station
On August 30, 2011, our school established senior high department and reorganized into a six-year high school. It began enrollment in 2012. To develop senior high students’ interest in weather observation, our science teachers used “funding for enriching high school facilities ” to buy weather station instruments. In July 2014, they chose to establish the weathe station and a dome on the roof of Yu Shan building. Anemometer inside the station is broken at the moment, applying for repair.
Hemei weather station mainly provides our junior/senior high science clubs and earth science class for studying. In order to integrate the school into our community, it also holds camps for junior high and elementary schools in the school district in hope of spreading seeds of weather education.

1. Wind vane:
Measures wind direction in compass points or degrees. 2. Anemometer: It consisted of three hemispherical cups, and is wind tunnel-tested to 320km/h. 3. Bird spikes: To prevent birds drink the water in the rain collector. 4. Rain collector: Self-emptying when the collector is full. 5. Solar radiation and UV sensor: Tracks solar radiation and UV indices. 6. Wireless transmitter: Transmit data to console. 7. Solar panel: Energizes the station during the day, no need to plug external power supply. 8. Built-in thermo hygrometer: Excellent wind resistance and protection from radiation, increase accurate readings. |
