※ Little Weather Angels -- Questionnaire Analysis
Due to participating Cyber Fair project, we learn a lot more about Master Lu Quan-En and weather. However, we are still not familiar of what other students have in their mind. Under the guidance of our teachers, we design a questionnaire for students to fill out in order to understand their thoughts about Silver Star weather station and Master Lu Quan-En.
We wish the questionnaire will give a deeper impression to everybody. Apart from multifaceted, multi-angle analysis, we also use texts to supplement every question. Complicated analysis results are simplified into transparent and easy to understand pie charts. Everybody can understand at a glance about many interviewers’ opinions. |

Changhua County Hemei High School (Junior High department) Cyber Fair questionnaire
Q1: Do you have any understanding or interest in weather?
Analysis:
From the graph on the left, 63% have understanding or interest in weather, 37% don’t. The number on who have understanding or interest is far exceeding the one doesn’t. We have classes more or less taught about basic weather knowledge, so the poll result is not surprising. Students who answered no are probably not very interested in weather. People nowadays are addicted to computer or cell phone, staring that tiny screen all day long. They never think of looking up to the sky and watching how the weather is!It’s a shame they miss many opportunities to learn. We wish everybody could put down their phone and pay attention to your surroundings which is much more interesting than your phone and computer! |
Q2:What kind of weather information do you usually pay attention to? Ex: Probability of precipitation, temperature‧‧‧etc
Analysis:
From the graph we learn that 81% of them pay more attention to probability of precipitation and temperature, because it concerns the weather of next day. They choose what they wear according to temperature and probability of precipitation. For fishermen, it’s closely related to their living, so there is a category called “fishery forecast” in weather report. Some other less followed information is UVI, animated map of global wind, and transboundary pollution trend… etc. Weather is connected to our life, so everyone more or less follows weather knowledge, but mostly restricted to our own area. It is kind of pity, we wish everybody can pay attention to weather of other areas in Taiwan. |
Q3:Where do you usually follow the weather report? Ex: internet, television‧‧‧?
Analysis:
From the pie chart analysis, 64% of them use 4G internet on their phone, 30% is television, 6% is others. We can learn that in modern society smart phone is extremely popularized. Everyone has one on his/her hands. It’s convenient like our nervous system, and the worldwide internet gives you temperature, humidity and probability of precipitation… etc. We decide what clothes to wear, bringing an umbrella or not, riding on motorcycle or driving based on weather information. In conclusion, combining weather report and internet makes our life more convenient. |
Q4: Any weather hazards leave impressions on you?
Analysis:
According our pie chart statistics, the most mentioned weather hazard is typhoon, 85% on the pie chart. Typhoon is number one, and second highest is flood, only 12%, much rarer in Taiwan. 3% is other hazard, like cold wave, cold damage, mudflow, and foehn wind. Mudflow mostly occurs in mountain area. Foehn wind occurs in eastern plain. Typhoon gives the deepest impression on most people. |
Q5:Following Q4, what are the impacts the hazard bring to your neighborhood?
Analysis:
According to our statistics, 73% is power outage caused by typhoon, 20% is flood. Every summer typhoon brings severe damages, and sometimes it causes flood or power outage. In most cases, it brings more rainfalls than drainage can handle, so the neighborhood roads are flooded. Power outage is caused by strong wind which blows objects into the sky and breaks the electric tower. It creates problems in our life. Typhoon can be really scary. Even though the maintenance staff repairs the damage in spite of the weather, we wish our government can improve drainage and electric system so we will not have to fear for terrifying typhoons in the future. |
Q6:Have you ever heard of weather master Mr. Lu Quan-En?
Analysis:
According to the statistics, 78% of them heard of him, 22% never. When speaking about weather, we think of famous master Lu Quan-En. From an unknown to a household name, he has gone through a lot of struggles. Master Lu is admirable for his continuous efforts to fight off many obstacles. Some people only witness his success instead of paying attention to his hard working process. His experiences teach us if we want to succeed, we have to put it into practice. There is no easy way to success. |
Q7:Have you ever heard of Hemei Silver Star weather station?
Analysis:
According to the pie chart, 52% have heard of it, 48% have not, so we can know that it has some reputation, half of our students know about the station. Master Lu Quan-En’s effort and weather info bring this result. His weather report is always the most accurate, and many people have promoted his Facebook page. He can obtain more funding to repair his weather instruments. If you never heard of the station, you should google the internet or read our introduction about Master Lu. As Hemei residents, we surely have to know about our local leader! |
Q8: Have you ever visited Silver Star weather station?
Analysis:
From the graph on the left, 91% of them never been to the weather station, only 9% did. Silver Star weather station is not a spacious place, so it’s difficult for big group of people to visit. A single visit to the roof only allows two or three people. Mr. Lu Quan-En also has a day job, and the visiting period only opens on the weekends, so very few people have the opportunities! We were very lucky having the chance to visit! If you have the opportunity, you should go and see how he utilizes a tiny space to produce weather information online! |
Q9:Have you ever heard of other famous person in weather forecast?
Analysis:
According to pie chart, there are three famous people everyone knows about. Meteorologist Peng Chi-Ming is most well-known. He graduated with doctor’s degree in atmosphere science at National Central University, 46% of students heard of him;Taiwanese meteorologist Zheng Ming-Dian ranks second, he was the director of weather forecast center at Central Weather Bureau, 20%;Finally, Taiwanese weather anchor Ren Li-Yu, he was the forecast division chief at Central Weather Bureau, promoted to director of weather forecast center, 16%;The other 18% never heard of any weather celebrity. Thus, students in Hemei are not very familiar with weather-related experts. Although the internet is very convenient, there is still not enough information about these experts. This should definitely be improved. |
Q10:Have you ever followed the weather report on Mr. Lu Quan-En’s Facebook page?
Analysis:
From the graph on the left, 21% of the students have followed his Facebook page, 37% have not, 42% would like to follow. Internet is quite popularized, and Mr. Lu usually posts weather information online. It’s very easy to follow him. Many people can learn about him through different channels. Master Lu not only has Facebook fanpage and group, once in a while, media have reported news about him. Thus 42% of students wants to follow him! After all, he must have unique qualities to make these media want to interview him!Wish more people can discover his hard work ! |
