※Mr. Lu Quan-En -- Service and Contribution
“Silver Star weather station” was established because of master Lu Quan-En’s personal interest in weather observation. After a few raging typhoons, he experienced the shocking power of our natural environment. He does not achieve this accomplishment in two or three days, like Rome wasn’t built in a day.
In 1993, master used his spare time to write an entry-level weather book called Weather in Taiwan. It was published by Linking Publishing in 1994. With new information technology and popularization of internet, he started writing weather report online in 2005. The website gradually gained more and more followers. In the beginning, only a few people followed his posts due to the lack of promotion. As time passed, more people read his posts. Big rain was pouring for many consecutive days during plum rain season in 2015. His rainfall report post had great responses from his followers. After all, not one institution was capable of predicting the exact time of rainfall. Afterwards, the followers asked master to build another website so everyone could read more about weather. |

Below is Lu Quan-en’s book Weather in Taiwan. It tells some interesting stories about weather, and uses witty dialogues to teach weather knowledge. We are enchanted and amazed by reading this book. It contains a bottomless pit of knowledge and explains temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind direction, wind speed in detail. The graphs and statistics inside are surprisingly comprehensive to the point monthly weather condition is completely recounted. This is really a valuable book worth reading.

Salty wind is one of his observation categories. Although the official organization does not recognize this record and refutes the report of salty wind during typhoon, he insists, “it’s fine, people who believe it will still believe. When typhoon strikes in the future, I will inform everyone in my reports, so you can prepare in advance. It is one of benefits by following Taiwan Breaking Weather Report. As for rainfall information, many followers like it. Of course, I have to continuously keep track of the rain. I will try my best to predict the rain if time allows. However, man proposes, god disposes. I will do my best.” Now, townsmen would ask him online first before going out or hanging out the quilt.
For a long time, master Lu Quan-En works hard and earns people’s trust. Nowadays, there are very few like him who is willing to spend time and effort to serve the public without asking anything in return. We should offer more support so he can keep on going.
