The Junyi Talking Points>Talking Points(7)(8)
Charity sale for cultural and creative items
Shih-You Huang
Since the use of the Junyi platform is free of charge, we want to help Junyi financially with the revenue of our charity sale.  We’ve decided to produce medallions for the sale.  Designing Medallion was fun.  They have to be unique and worth buying.  Most of us put only one Foxycat on their medallion while I put 5.  It denotes a higher value for money since the buyer gets to have 5 Foxycats for one price.

I got a strong sense of achievement from selling the medallions the charity sale.  I used to think that such medallions are made in factories.  I’ve never thought we would be making medallions with our hands.  This was the first time we produced medallions and we managed to produce over 120 units which sold out by 8:30am.  This is a great success.

We produced many medallions for charity sale on School Sports Day.  They were lovely.  We’ve donated the revenue to Junyi Academy so that Junyi can help more children.  I want do charity sale again on the next School Sport Day since it is fun to create stuff.

I got up early on School Sports Day for two reasons.  I didn’t want to be late and I wanted to be the first one to buy the Junyi limited edition medallion.  I made it.  I was the first among the classmates of the Gifted Class and I bought the limited edition medallion.

We were glad that the medallions sold out on School Sports Day.  Each of them costed TWD 50.  Those who checked-in on Facebook got to buy one at TWD 30.  When I visit restaurants with my mother, we occasionally get discount by checking in on Facebook.  This was my first experience in Internet marketing.

Making Medallion is not as simple as it may seem.  It takes physical strength and precision.  Initially, I thought we couldn’t have made any products that were worth buying.  Selling out all of them was simply unbelievable.  We managed to collect over TWD 50,000 that were subsequently donated to Junyi Academy.
Massive Event for Challenge Missions

Before the Challenger Event, I practiced explaining the instructions and rules of the games with my teammates.  For me, the event was fun because, as gatekeeper, I got to play with the robots.  During the event, a Grade 3 pupil managed to topple 2 bottles way before expiration of the time limit of 2 minutes.  I told him to continue playing with the robot until his time’s up.  I believe it is up to them to choose between 1 or 2 minutes.  That way, Grade 3 pupils would not lose interest in the game abruptly.

To deepen the understanding of children in Junyi, we’ve designed a Challenger Event where children play games.  Our teacher introduced 3 games that allowed successful player to earn points.  I had to proactively ask pupils to fill out questionnaires at my Questionnaire Gate.  Fortunately, pupils at the other gates filled out questionnaire using computers otherwise the final analysis would be difficult.

The Challenger Event allowed pupils to collect points upon completion of Junyi questions.  I wish that Grade 3 schoolmates learned more about Junyi during this event and proceed to use the platform on their own.

I was the gatekeeper of the gate called “A monkey eats banana”.  I initially thought it wouldn’t attract many players but it turned out that the game gathered momentum and eventually pulled in a lot of pupils.
When we trial run the games, we found the game “A monkey eats banana” was a bit difficult.  However, they still enjoyed it.  This is surprising.

We invited children to take part in the Challenger Event today.  I was the gatekeeper of the gate called “Roboactor”.  It was successful.  They loved the game and had fun.  They even didn’t want to leave when we closed the event.  I wish we would hold this event again.

The preparation of the Challenger Event took weeks.  I was very nervous at the beginning of the event.  I thought I had to act like a shop assistant.  I thought the Labyrinth would be unpopular, but it turned out to be a major attraction.  Pupils lined up and left only when the event was closed.  The robot games were amazing.  I learned that I only have to think straight.  Also, it wasn’t too difficult to organize event.  With equipment readily available, we just have to think through the workflow.
