Interviewing Mr. Chen |
Asking questions |
Q1: Could you tell us your title,
work experience and content?
A1: I am the director of Power Distribution in
Taipower. My main job is to contact the user. We pull the
line from the substation to the user's home, some are
overhead, some are buried in the underground line, after the
cable and the meter is completed. The power is sent to the
user. There are 24 offices including repairing, operating,
and maintaining in Taiwan, all of which are supervised by
us. I have been working in Taipower for 29 years.
Q2: How did you get into Taiwan Power Company? What
qualifications or expertise do you have?
A2: My major is electrical engineering. In 1989, I
participated in the special examination of the Ministry of
Economic Affairs and entered Taipower. But Taipower needs
different talents, whether it¡¦s business or machinery.
Q3: Is there any risk around your working place? If
so, how do you reduce risks?
A3: Electricity is invisible and intangible. The work
we do is exposed to high voltage and low voltage
electricity, so the electricity industry is quite dangerous.
However, we are fine with it as long as we follow the
standard operating procedures.
Q4: What is the challenge when working? How do you
dealt with it?
A4: Communicating with the public is the biggest
challenge. Everyone needs electricity, but no one wants
transformer boxes and power plants are near homes because
these are NIMBY Facilities which means Not-In-My-Back-Yard.
Therefore, we must continue to communicate and negotiate.
Q5: What is your sense of accomplishment during work?
Why?
A5: We must repair electricity problems in hurry due
to the power outage by typhoons or earthquakes. When power
is restored, it is our most successful moment to see the joy
of the public.
