1888 - 1895 Qing Dynasty: Start of the Electric Industry
In the earliest record of
Taiwan electric industry, Taiwan¡¦s governor, Liu Mingchuan,
created the ¡§Xingshi Company¡¨ in Dongmen, Taipei. In 1888,
the power generation method was to install a small steam
coal-fired generator to supply lighting at a low voltage to
illuminate the first light bulb in Taiwan.
1896 - 1945 Under Japanese Rule: Electric
Power Establishment
There were totally 33 power
plants under Japanese rule, including 25 hydropower plants
and 8 thermal power plants. The Guishan Hydropower Plant was
built in 1905 which is the first hydroelectric power plant
in Taiwan. In 1919, "Taiwan Power Corporation" was
established, and the Sun Moon Lake hydropower development
plan was started simultaneously. Finally, the transmission
line connected the north and the south in western Taiwan.
