Traceability System
Hsin Tung Yang had been concerned about how to make consumers find trust in the food safety of their products. After a long time of research, they finally found the answer in the Council of Agriculture’s traceability system; thus, Hsin Tung Yang became the first firm to apply the use of RFID and traceability system within their manufacturing process, but what is RFID and the traceability system?
In order to help consumers feel at ease with Hsin Tung Yang’s products, the firm started to put a QR code on the package of each product. If consumers scan the QR code with their phone, a website will pop up. Then, the consumers are able to get all the information of the product they are going to buy. For example, if consumers scan the QR code, which is on the package of Hsin Tung Yang’s beef jerky, consumers can access information on the farm that raised the cow, the date that the cow was slaughtered, the date the meat was delivered to the factory, and much more information about the product.
RFID has similar function as the E-Tag, which is used on the highway in Taiwan. All of the products of Hsin Tung Yang have a tag, which looks like the E-Tag; this tag is called the RFID Tag. Hsin Tung Yang sticks a RFID Tag on every product in the factory. Then, during transporting, the staff put a tag called the RFID Temperature Tag inside the box. When the products arrive at the store, the staff then receives the information of the products. Last, when the consumer buys the product, he or she could use a kiosk database to get information about the product. Although this technology is convenient, it is expensive to maintain.
Hsin Tung Yang uses the RFID and traceability system to help their consumers feel at ease when enjoying Hsin Tung Yang’s products. Hsin Tung Yang is truly a good firm that keeps the needs of the consumers in mind.
Hsin Tung Yang is persistent in producing food with the best quality, and one of the methods of keeping up with this standard is by using the traceability system. The traceability system that Hsin Tung Yang uses has three sources: 1) Material Suppliers, 2) Food Processing Factory, and 3) Production Distribution.
Material Supplier- Hsin Tung Yang requires their material suppliers to include a batch number on every commodity, and each batch number must include its slaughterhouse source, slaughterhouse process and purchase date; this information will be recorded in Hsin Tung Yang’s traceability system, so it can be traced back easily in the future.
Food Processing Factory- All of the processed products in Hsin Tung Yang are processed in the Dayuan Factory. The staff is responsible for entering information about each product’s batch material, additive production process and related inspection reports into the database.
In addition to the traceability system, Hsin Tung Yang is also strict and persistent about the material they use, for their goal is to guarantee the health and right of each consumer. For example, Hsin Tung Yang used to use low-cost white pork in the earlier times; however, people nowadays are more health conscious, so Hsin Tung Yang decided to use high-cost black pork. The reason Hsin Tung Yang decided to use black pork is because black pork has better quality, less impurities, and it is also healthier for the human body. Hsin Tung Yang has also shown persistence in their signboard. The style of calligraphy on Hsin Tung Yang’s signboard has not changed since 1972. Hsin Tung Yang continues to adhere to the values of integrity, trust, initiative, innovation as well as delicacy, quality, and hospitality, and perhaps this is the reason that Hsin Tung Yang can still remain and persist in its success until today.
