Cloud Gate Exhibition

1. Preparations

After months of in-depth research on Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, we know that most people have heard about Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, although some are not too familiar with its details or performances. We wish to promote this national treasure at school so that all the students get to know Cloud Gate Dance Theatre. We then scoured the campus for spots where we could put posters on. After we coordinated with the teachers, we decided to place the posters we made on the Social Studies bulletin board so that the teachers and students who walked by could see them.

First, we assigned four team members to measure the size of the bulletin board. Those responsible for materials went out buying full-size poster papers, adhesive tapes and markers. In addition to the purchase of materials, they also had to decide on the color scheme. They discussed what colors and patterns would go well with the topic. After everything was ready, we needed to determine the contents and assign the people responsible for the job.

After knowing each person's strengths and characteristics, we divided our 10-people group into two sub-groups, responsible for design and texts respectively. Following the assignment of tasks for both sub-groups, all of us got together to work on the poster. The classmates in charge of design focused on the format by using attractive materials and designs. Those in charge of texts were told to staple the sub-headings, sourced sufficient information and expressed the findings in the simple language that primary school students can understand. After the job assignments, we began the preparations required to facilitate the poster production, so that the process will go smooth.

2. Poster Deployment

After extensive discussions, we chose Cloud Gate Dance Theatre as the theme for our CyberFair project. We were looking forward to sharing our findings with other classmates. We chose the social studies bulletin board as the primary location to showcase our work in campus.

We started with an introduction of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and Mr. Lin Hwai-min, followed with their signature works and anecdotes when they toured and performed overseas. Finally, we presented our project to a total of 550 classmates in 14 classes in the primary school, junior high and senior high school sections. We collected their comments and displayed them in the poster.

We spent a lot of efforts brainstorming the layout and the storyline for the exhibition. After a few months of research, we collected a large amount of information about Cloud Gate Dance Theatre. It was important figuring out how to present the information in a smooth way to other classmates. Poster design was not as easy as it seemed. It was unexpectedly difficult and tedious. It took us rounds of modifications and improvements before a consensus could be reached. The process of thinking over and again deepened our understanding of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre.

A perfect poster requires texts, pictures and a good layout. Attention to details such as cutting, pasting and color arrangements is important. A good poster is brief in words and rich in meanings. The production took time and effort and made us realize the importance of teamwork. It was also a bonding experience for us. This project gave us the opportunity to get to know Cloud Gate Dance Theatre as a great dance groups in Taiwan. More importantly, we hope other classmates feel the same way as we do through this promotional campaign.

3. Promotional Activities

After we finished the poster, we felt it was time to stick it up on the bulletin board. This was not a straightforward task given the poster's large size. First, we had to stick double-sided adhesive tapes at the back, so that it would not fall off. This was followed with the measurement and marking of the position. Then we attached the poster on the bulletin board, with a bit of decorations as the final touch. Hurray! We've made it!

As we felt that the reading and comprehensive ability of primary school students is not well-developed or that they would only glance over the contents, we decided to make verbal presentations to them. Ten of us were divided into five groups of two people each, to cover one portion of our project. We rehearsed in the spare time and we explored ways to make our contents and ideas lively and interesting. We wanted to achieve the best result for our promotional campaign.

We were concerned that elementary school children might not be interested in this topic. We were worried about how to capture their attention. To our surprise, they were all very attentive and their eyes sparkled. They were very keen in providing their comments. Most of them praised Cloud Gate Dance Theatre for their significant contribution to Taiwan. A few of them asked questions, in order to know more about Cloud Gate Dance Theatre.
