Junyi 5-year Retrospect
       Junyi Academy has been established for 5 years.  The platform has gone through quite a series of changes.  From Chinese support of Khan Academy’s platform through bespoke development to tailored features, from locally developed content to products to be used on the scene, continual development of software and content has revolutionized education.  Junyi has become the largest and best platform for children in elementary and junior high schools.  It really took a lot wholeheartedness and effort to achieve that.  Junyi wants to take advantage of technologies to assist teacher in the implementation differentiated instruction in education and to help eliminated the deep-rooted weakness in learning.  Through good use of technologies, we want to provide underprivileged children with the opportunity to integrate with the world and connect to the future.
      Differentiated instruction is a very important topic for education.  The society used to emphasize the right for education.  Pupils are assigned to classes according to ages.  There is specific syllabus for each grade.   The education system is a rigid one that applies to everybody.  On the other hand, some children with a slower learning pace almost cannot catch up with the rest whereas those with high degree of readiness cannot get ahead.   Nowadays, frontline teachers wish to provide tailored education for each child based upon the child’s degree of readiness, but it is fundamentally not practical.  There is generally only one teacher in a classroom.  Even if the teacher wants to do so, he would find it impossible.  The objective and vision of Junyi are completely in line with such tailored education.

5-year anniversary retrospect of Junyi
1.Initial Stage
The Junyi platform was officially put online in 2012
      The content and the software were made available from Khan Academy at the initial stage upon authorization of Khan Academy.  Three partners of the foundation and dozens of volunteers helped operate the platform, translate the content to chinese, build and design the website.  It took them 6 months to translate over 1,000 thousand video clips and interactive questions.  The platform was put online in October 2012.
Classic courses available in 2013
      To enrich the educational video clips on the platform, new classic courses were created that shared great educational videos on the internet.  Classic courses were filmed in classroom with the help of frontline teachers.  Junyi had identified teachers who volunteered to appear in the videos.  These teachers have the same vision as that of Junyi.  The number of such teachers increased from 5 and eventually to dozens.  The first voluntary mathematics teacher helped published 800 videos whereas the first voluntary natural science teacher helped made 50 videos.  During the period, the Junyi team has also translated 1,200 videos obtained from Khan Academy.
2.Growth Stage
      Junyi developed a tool for remedial teaching.  The next day after the final test of remedial teaching, the teacher will be able to review how good children have done in the units covered in remedial teaching.  The teacher can obtain full picture of children’s progress and provided targeted assistance.  During the development of the tool, Junyi wants it to become a classroom tool in addition to it being an online tool.
Every Junyi team member shares the same vision of improving education.  They expect their devotion would be fruitful for the next generation.  The team explores repeatedly various ways to optimize the operation of and content on the platform.  They aim at enabling each child to learn at their desired temp with the use of technologies.  During the past 3 years, Junyi’s online tools have been extensively adopted by teachers and used in the classrooms.  More and more county governments are collaborating with Junyi.  The Junyi platform is no long just about online products but becoming an end-to-end methodology that fuses together conventional teaching and online tools.

3.Breakthrough Stage
       Starting from 2017, Junyi has entered the Breakthrough Stage.  The platform has moved from remedial teaching oriented to differentiated instruction oriented.  With the assistance of teachers, parents and the support of technologies, we expect that every child would be able to identify his desire tempo and approach for learning.  The vision of personalized learning can be realized.  We wish that every child would gain from it and eventually becomes the driver of his knowledge-pursuing vehicle.

4.  5-year overall result
(1)Make every child a driver of his or her own knowledge pursuing vehicle.
      In terms of content, there are over 13,000 videos for elementary and junior high schools, over 46,000 post-video questions that enable children practice immediately the knowledge traversed during preceding videos.  Such practices make better comprehension and proficiency.

(2)Assist teachers in practicing differentiated instruction.  Parent keeps children company while children are learning for fun.
       In terms of software development, Junyi has provided teacher with dashboards that reveal learning related data and feed back timely to teacher who gets to understand the progress of pupils.  At the same time, the mission assignment function of the platform allows customized mission that targets pupils with wide-ranging degrees of readiness.  Parent gets to see mission completeness and obtain a good view of the child’s position.

(3)Line up governments, schools and teachers to push forward implementation of Junyi’s methodology in classroom
      In terms of marketing, Junyi has strengthened the collaboration with Yilian county government and Professor Ming-Jen Lin of National Taiwan University to verify the effectiveness of Junyi.  Taking advantage of the experience in the collaboration with the Yilian county government, Junyi has come up with customized collaboration with county governments.  It also worked with Education Bureau in holding large scale seminar for teachers.  This paves the way for further penetration in terms of breadth and depth.
