After spending time with "Ling Yang Team", we developed an alternative understanding and knowledge of the Deaf Women’s Basketball Team. With paint brushes in our hands, we put the aggressiveness and perseverance of "Ling Yang Team" on paper stroke by stroke. The process brought us closer to them than ever before.

Title: 2015 World Deaf Basketball Championships
Materials: Pencil, Colored Pencils
Design Concept:
This was a game between the Chinese Taipei team and the U.S. team. I tried to show the wide disparities between the members of the two teams in stature. Compared to the tall blond members of the U.S. team, the members of the Chinese Taipei team with black hair were much slimmer and smaller. Despite of this, they tried their best to block the U.S. team, and the defensive player at the back was also fighting diligently. All of them carried a look of intense concentration and great fighting spirit. With my colored pencils, I documented the players’ perseverance in silence.

Title: 2015 Taoyuan World Deaf Basketball Championships
Materials: Crayons, Colored Pencils
Design Concept:
This is a drawing of the game between the Chinese Taipei team and the U.S. team. Although the team members could not hear the cheers from the audience, we still kept on rooting for them loudly. Apart from the players that were playing on the court, those watching by the court side also appeared poised and ready for a good fight. Every member wore a look of determination that grabbed my full attention. I seemed to be seeing the Chinese Taipei team gradually striding toward victory, and bringing glory and honor to Taiwan with their continuous efforts.

Title: A Different Kind of Basketball
Materials: Colored Pencils, Markers, Felt Tip Pen
Design Concept:
During the 2015 World Deaf Basketball Championships, we cheered for the Chinese Taipei Deaf Women’s Basketball Team during the game and participated in the opening ceremony. Different from the opening ceremonies of sports events for non-disabled, the organizers thoughtfully arranged a sign language interpreter in front of every seating area to translate the process to the audience. I was so impressed by the scene that I decided to put it in my drawing. I wish the Chinese Taipei team success, and hope that they can bring glory to our country.

Title: Go! Ling Yang Team!
Materials: Pencil, Permanent Marker, Watercolor Paints
Design Concept:
This was the first time that I ever watched an entire basketball game. The concentration and the fighting spirit in the eyes of the players and the energetic participation of the audience prompted me to cheer for the players as loudly as I could. The World Deaf Basketball Championships also opened my eyes to some of the things that differ from regular basketball games, like the signals and the communication methods. I was deeply touched so I put these in my drawing.

Title: The "Muted" Gold Medal Women’s Basketball Players
Materials: Pencil, Markers, Crayons
Design Concept:
During the 2015 World Deaf Basketball Championships, our whole family went to the game to cheer for the Deaf Women's Basketball Team. It was a game between the Chinese Taipei team and the Israel team. All the team members tried their best and defeated Israel with a 20-point gap. For the basketball fans at the game, it was a very invigorating result! I portrayed the exciting moment of the five members of the Chinese Taipei team playing basketball on the court. Suffering from hearing loss, they are like cell phones on mute. However, this made them even more focused on the game. I want to show their spirit of perseverance with this drawing.

Title: Hear the World with Basketball
Materials: Pencil, Markers, Crayons
Design Concept:
It was the summer of 2015, when the World Deaf Basketball Championships took place in the Taoyuan Arena. Together with my family and classmates, we went to the Arena to root for the team. With the Israel team as the opponent, the Chinese Taipei team was clearly more skillful and a gap was soon opened. The game ended with a final score of 62-42. I was so greatly impressed that when I drew the game between Chinese Taipei and Israel, I could still recall vividly the details in the attack and defense of every player. I also recorded the joy of victory when the Chinese Taipei team won the game. Although their hearing is impaired, they have "Heard the World with Basketball".

Title: 2015 World Deaf Basketball Championships
Materials: Colored Pencils, Pencil
Design Concept:
On the left side of the picture is the Championships logo. I drew this logo by first printing it out and removing the colored sections with a utility knife. Next, I put the remaining portion on paper and filled in the colors. Given that peaches are the local specialty fruit of Taoyuan, I drew the middle part with pink peach blossom, the city flower of Taoyuan, as a symbol of warm welcomes. The other colors of the peaches in the picture represented the four continents participating in the game, showing that everyone belonged to the world community.

On the right of the picture were the five starting players playing on the court and working hard to win the game. This was the scene that struck me the most when I watched them play for the first time. They played so hard that I could see the sweat dripping down their backs, while we, the audience, shouted "Chinese Taipei, Go!" from the seating area. It was a scene that left a deep impression in my mind.

Title: Bouncing Basketball
Materials: Pencil, Markers, Correction Fluid, Colored Pencils
Design Concept:
This picture was created by combining the live scenes of the 2015 World Deaf Basketball Championships (Taipei vs. Israel), the mascot of the Championships, and the emblem of Taoyuan City. It was a very exciting game. As the home team, the Chinese Taipei team worked hard in both attacks and defenses with a sense of mission. Therefore, I portrayed the seriousness on the faces of the players in my picture. In addition, I liked the mascot very much, which was a dragon dressed in a basketball uniform with a basketball in its hand. It was very interesting. Lastly, since this important sports event was held in Taoyuan, I added the emblem of Taoyuan City.
