Promotional Campaign

1) Promotional Talks

In order for students to have a true understanding of our research topic "The Deaf Women’s Basketball Team", we made use of the campus bulletin board and prepared posters on the relevant issues. Started from designing the content, to job allocations and drawings, our group had devoted great thoughts and passion to this activity.

The talks were given by our team members in groups of two during recesses from Monday to Friday mornings. When we joined together in front of the bulletin board, we would also divide the tasks between us. Sometimes we would stop the students passing by. Sometimes we would invite students to come down from their classrooms directly. We were glad to find that most students were interested in sports and thus happy to listen to us sharing the story of the Deaf Women’s Basketball Team.

During the talks, we were amazed to find that students from different grades reacted and showed their concerns differently. The boys and girls of lower grades tended to be drawn to the pictures and drawings on the posters and asked questions frequently. The students of middle and higher grades, on the other hand, would listen to us attentively while reading the texts on the posters. Comparatively, they were more interested and identified themselves more with the topic.

2) Feedbacks from Promotional Campaign

We designed creatively a feedback message board in the shape of a basketball court and placed it below the quotes from the book "Rookies, Fly Faster". These were posted next to the poster we made for the campus bulletin board, so that students could write down their thoughts or suggestions on the sticky notes after listening to our talks or reading the posters.

Seeing more and more sticky notes appearing on the feedback message board, we were excited, gratified, and motivated to continue with the work. These feedbacks represented the direct and genuine portion of our research, showing that our efforts have been seen and heard by others. Thanks to their encouragement and recognition, we are more confident and reassured that we are doing something meaningful and helpful to others, as well as for our own personal development.

This was a column created by our joint efforts. All of us worked hard toward a common goal. It felt great to cooperate! From collecting the information, preparing for the posters and feedback message board, we enjoyed ourselves while learning. We hope that the students could relate more to the hearing-impaired persons from our activities, and becoming supportive of the Deaf Women’s Basketball Team and learning to care about others and the society as a whole.
