Documentary Sector Interviews

3) Summary of Documentary Sector Interviews

It is necessary for the process of hard work to be documented, and even more so for the failure, the pain and the defeat. It is failure that makes us see things more clearly. Even if they were rookies, as long as they have once soared bravely through the sky, the feeling and sense of direction will remain. During the three years while producing the documentary "Power in 2009", Ms. Wen-ching Lin witnessed the hard work of these underprivileged deaf players and the efforts made by the coaches. This was a very touching experience for her. If financial issues could be worked out, we hope this documentary film could be shown around campuses in Taiwan, for everyone to learn from the spirit of perseverance in front of hardships and follow the lead of these players to realize the true value of life.

"I used to think that basketball is only for those who play well. But now, I know that it is for everyone. I have found my mission in basketball." Yi-ling Lin, currently a teacher at Taipei School for the Hearing Impaired, was the oldest among all the players in the 2009 Deaflympics team. She lacked confidence in her own basketball skills and physical strength. But as it turned out, she was the major driving force behind the publication of the book and co-founder of the association. The players wanted to show their gratitude to the coaches with this book, besides recruiting new members for the poorly staffed Deaf Women's Basketball Team. "You may win or lose in a game, and all lives will come to an end. But this team must go on!" Just as Ms. Yi-ling Lin once said, with the right attitude comes the ability. We should influence people with positive attitudes and become useful to the society.
