Promotion of Deaf Women’s Basketball Team

In order to get more people to learn about the hearing- impaired and support the special team of the Deaf Women's Basketball Team, we decided to start the campus promotional activities in the classes of our group members after a discussion with the teacher. Dividing our team members into groups of two, we conducted the promotion for higher grades in the mornings. Before that, we needed to communicate with the teachers of the classes about the best time for our presentations and made a series of preparations such as compiling and converting the data, together with pictures and videos, into PPT slides. We hope to present what we learned to the students clearly and systematically within the given time.

Our PPT slides included the following contents:

  • About the hearing-impaired
  • Communication methods for the hearing-impaired
  • Deaf Sports
  • Deaf Women’s Basketball Team and related sporting events
  • Introductory videos about "Power in 2009", "Rookies, Fly Faster", and our campus news videos
  • Quiz contest with prizes

When we were giving the presentation, the students would listen attentively. But when it was time for the quiz contest, they became very excited. In order to show our appreciation for the students’ cooperation in making our class promotion a success, our team prepared small gifts for the students that participated in the Q&A as well as the other listeners. From the class promotion, we began to understand the true meaning of the phrase "One minute of performance on stage, ten years of hard work off stage ". In order to prepare for this activity, the group members practiced the presentations repeatedly during spare time and spent a lot of time to compile the data. The results we obtained were therefore only possible because of our team effort. We hope that other students in our school have attained a basic knowledge of the hearing-impaired through our promotional activity and start to support the Deaf Women’s Basketball Team so that they can continue to shine in international sports events.
