1) Advocating the book "Rookies, Fly Faster"

From the many interviews with the Deaf Women's Basketball Team, we learned that funding has always been the issue. In the spirit of sharing and caring, we put our heads together, hoping to help the Team with our own efforts even if we were just elementary students. We decided to advocate the book "Rookies, Fly Faster: The Story of Taiwan Deaf Women's Basketball Team" to all the students and teachers in our school. Part of the job was to set up a "Book Recommendation" billboard. We hope the students would become interested in the book or the documentary DVD of "Power in 2009" after learning the Story of Deaf Women's Basketball Team and would further recommend them to more people.

We made the billboard with utmost care. First, we brainstormed for the content. We went to Eslite Bookstore right across from our school and observed the display and layout for inspiration. We also researched online to see how bookstores recommend books. After making full preparations, we designed layout of the context, which were: upper left corner - brief introduction of the book so that the content can be easily identified; lower left corner – our reflections after reading the book and placed creatively in the shape of a book; right side of the billboard – selected quotes from "Rookies, Fly Faster", followed by our reflections on the quotes.

After thorough discussions, we set out to design the perfect billboard with the computer skills we have acquired from Information Technology classes since 3rd grade. After that, we made large printouts for the billboard. After we finished the production, our next task was to conduct promotions during recesses. We also showed our support by purchasing the book "Rookies, Fly Faster" and the DVDs of "Power in 2009" from the website of the Taiwan Deaf Women’s Sports and Recreation Association, and used these during our campus promotions.

The members of our group met at the terrace on the 3rd floor during recesses and introduced the book "Rookies, Fly Faster" to the students. We encouraged the students to look through the book and recommended that they show their support to Taiwan Deaf Women's Basketball Team as well. As expected, the billboard we made drew tremendous attention from the students. As soon as it was place on the terrace, the students would rush over to read it carefully. We were happy and gratified for the students’ interest and active participations. We hope our campus promotion was successful in bringing more people to support and care about the Deaf Women's Basketball Team.

2) Online Video Promotion

Internet allows people to obtain the information from around the world, and at the same time, send out our information to others. Under the instruction of our teacher, we made campus news videos featuring Taiwan Deaf Women’s Basketball Team. Apart from broadcasting them in our school, we also uploaded the videos online and shared their story through YouTube. We hope that more people can get to know and support Taiwan Deaf Women's Basketball Team. During the production of this film, we also learned to identify the key issues, summarized the interviews, and presented them in images and footages. This was not just our first attempt at filming, but also a precious experience.
