Governing Sector Interviews

3) Summary of Governing Sector Interviews

During the Cyberfair project, we interviewed Mr. Ting-peng Yeh, Head of ‘Sports-for-All’ Division in Sports Administration of Ministry of Education and Mr. Liang-hui Chen, Chief Secretary of the Department of Sports for Taipei City Government and learned that the government authorities have been sparing no effort to promote sports for the deaf. They have also formulated the "Incentives for high-performance physically and mentally disabled athletes and meritorious coaches" given the special nature of these sports. They have also shown even greater support for the sporting events for the deaf by allocating special budgets and setting up special business units to provide guidance.

The government also instructs the CTSAD to hold several National Deaf Basketball Championships and basketball camps every year so that deaf sports can be firmly rooted by finding potential athletes among the limited number of hearing-impaired students. It has also established a sports development foundation on the basis of which elite athletes could be selected to participate in international sports events. CTSAD is also commissioned to organize all kinds of sporting events.

Thanks to this project, we were able to enter the silent world of the Deaf Women's Basketball Team and acquired a deeper understanding of the hearing-impaired that we rarely had a chance to. We shall learn to cherish what we own. We also learned the meaning of "no pain, no gain". All successes were the results of individual willpower and joint efforts of the team.
