But what he really wants to prove is that one should hold on to his dream and be brave to realize it. His mission is to promote the kite art with his expertise, hoping that one day the kites would be recognized as a distinguished art form, not just a kid’s play.
First, Mr. Huang hopes to promote the kite art through education with formal classes and club activities. He hopes to combine teachings of different subjects to inspire limitless imagination and creativity of the students, and to develop their merits and self-assurance through the process of building up crafting skills. Education is the key to shake off the burden and prejudice imposed by old-school thoughts.
Mr. Huang also wants to pass on the kitemaking skills to the next generations. He keeps the blueprints of all his works. One simply has to follow his blueprint to make an identical copy of the kite. He sees himself a stepping stone for the youngsters, hoping to save them the efforts of trials and errors and so that the kite art could be passed on, promoted and re-imagined many generations to come.
Of course, his ultimate wish is to build a kite museum. He said that if there is a museum that can collect his cherished projects, he is willing to donate all his works to the new home. More people would be able to appreciate the beauty of kites in a fair space and perhaps start chasing their own dreams in kitemaking and experience for themselves the excitement of soaring into the sky.
